UHL Terrarium cooled w/ aquarium chiller

Hey Guys. I am planning to put together a UHL terrarium cooled with a 1/2 horsepower aquarium chiller connected to a radiator with a small fan behind it. I put this thread here because the main focus is the chilling technique, not the terrarium itself. I will also be connecting a humidifying...

Popped a pitcher lid by accident?!

Ok, so normally, a Nepenthes pitcher will inflate until it reaches the point where it will open, then the lid will pop open, then the peristome flattens and rolls over and good stuff happens...But what if, hypothetically, one was to accidentally "pop" the pitcher lid open open before the pitcher...

    Best mini CP for orchidarium

Hi all, I have recently set up a 40 gallon terrarium, mostly for growing mini orchids, but I would like to add a CP into the mix. Here are my specs: 77F(25C) daytime temp, 59F(15C) night. I am setting up a cooling system so the tank will not go above 77 even in summer, and will always have at...

Is flushing the pot with water necessary?

I have several plants in a Highland Terrarium. I will flush the pots with water every 2 weeks. Is that enough? Also, after this i have tons of water left. Can i reuse this water? Is this flushing of the pot necessarily? I mean I do this because I don't can't really tell if the soil in the pot...

Begonia bogneri trade for Nepenthes (1 B. bogneri plant) plus giveaway (2 plants)

I posted this in another forum on Saturday. Since I'm surprised there have been no takers, at least for the free (for postage) ones, I'll post again here, with a link: http://www.terraforums.com/forums/showthread.php/138190-Begonia-bogneri-terrarium-plant-miniature-epiphyte-grows-in-sphagnum...

Baxi Water Heater / Heating Unit Died...

The house is in the 40's by now, and our landlord put us up in a hotel, until a pump switch can be over-nighted and installed. I think my terrarium setup, with Petiolaris Complex plants are going to be goners. Also, our mailbox, since we moved, is no longer in a protected vestibule. It's...

Begonia bogneri: terrarium plant, miniature, epiphyte, grows in sphagnum

Begonia bogneri is a very odd Begonia, as its leaves are grasslike, and it's a miniature. It's a plant from a warm, wet part of Madagascar. It's tuberous, although it does not have an obligate dormancy, grown indoors. For whatever reason, it's gotten a reputation as a difficult plant, tends...

    Ladybug

5 weeks ago, on a warm day, just before the 'Snowpocolypse', ladybugs were out and about. So I collected as many as I could, and littered them in my terrarium and grow rack. Surprisingly, many of them fled those environs, and went elsewhere in the house. Today, however, I found one on the grow...

    New to the scene

I am brand new to the Drosera-growing scene, and have started out with a tiny little terrarium, which I'm currently rather proud of. At the moment, I'm sure I don't have enough light for my plants, but I'll be getting a better bulb on Tuesday. The old bulb I've had them under for the past day...

Can anyone identify this grass jelly for me?

I saw something glistening on the top of my Heli's soil. It's a clearish jelly. This plant is kept in a terrarium, is this as a result of bad air circulation? thanks

Can you recommend an all purpose fertilizer?

I want to feed some of my droseras, nepenthes, heli, and pings. Food in the winter is def scarce outside and some of this plants are in a terrarium which means no food other than the light. I saw this post and thought about buying this food...

How often do you trim dead leafs and pitchers

Aesthetics aside, are there any consequences for untrimmed blackened and decayed leaf? I have collections in a terrarium, on a windowsill, and outside. Any thoughts and suggestions? thanks!

    Terrarium Heating with Submersible Heaters

I'm interested in setting up a terrarium for lowland Nepenthes, probably one of the larger exo-terra models. I already have an Intermediate/Highland grow-tent that does not receive supplemental heating. It averages daytime highs of 80 and nighttime lows of 60-65 without supplemental heating. I'm...

    Ps3isawesome's photo thread

Ps3isawesome's photo thread (Updated 3/11/2016) I have an urge to share and want to consolidate this type of posts. I'm very happy with my set up so I've decided to stick to this for a while or at least until Summer comes. I am now able to drop the night time temperature in the HL terrarium...

Is something wrong with my Nepenthes?

Recently moved my Nepenthes from windowsill to a terrarium. All the other HL Nepenthes' leafs stayed green or red. However, this three are turning red or yellow. Right now they are getting 12 hours of sunlight from Sunblaze 24 (have specs below). It's 9 inches away from the plants. It's been 9...

    Anne's Helis

I thought I would share my small (but growing) heli collection... Currently I have the following helis: H. chimantensis H. parva H. pulchella H. uncinata H. heterodoxa x ionasii My setup is a 45 gallon terrarium (36"x12"x24") with two 39W T5HOs and reflective foam insulation on three sides...

How important is day time or maximum temperature

Right now, I am unable to get my terrarium's night time temperature to drop. My max is 77 and low is 66. I can def get it below 60 if I just leave them in the garage. However, in that case the day time temperature will prob decrease to low 70's which would lover my max temperature. Is that okay...
