I know that VFTs can be propagated vegetatively through the use of flower stalks, but I don't know the specifics, and I have an interesting situation I'm looking at. I divided a small piece off of my VFT last summer, and now it has two flower stalks forming. To complicate things, it's in a...
Greetings all,
I am procrastinating right now and avoiding responsibility for just a few more minutes so I thought I would make a list of some of the carnivorous plants I think are best to start with- a long with some comments. This list is meant to be pretty general and is perhaps USA centric...
I wasn't sure where to post this since it isn't about my mac' but rather about the flowering plants growing on the surface of the mac' pot. I didn't remove them because they look like tiny grass of some sort and the blades are only about 1/4 inch long. Several weeks ago flower stalks began...
Dear CP growers!
Past 2 weeks I have been deflasking and started to acclimatize many sundew species from in vitro.
Most of then grew well in various tested nutrient media, some test have been performed with hormones and with colloidal silver. Here I would like to share several pictures with...
U. quelchii & U. humboldtii - while most people probably do not consider the two as really similar - I beg to differ. One of the things I enjoy about both of them is their paddle-shaped leaves (or photosynthetic stolons for those who prefer that route). You're probably thinking - "no - they...
Up for auction is a basket of the Queensland 'Sisters':
- D. adelae - a very large & mature plant
- D. prolifera - two mature plants (currently growing semi-wild in the lower regions of one of my tanks)
- D. schizandra - a small plant from some root propagation babies.
- It is not often that...
Some times newer and better techniques come along. I will attempt to take root cuttings from my D. regia some day and was wondering what was the best way to do this. Media / Floatting / Light / Temps etc. Which is the best old new way to accomplish this. Step by step instructions are very...
Hey everyone as some of you may know i reside in michigan, but am getting a new assignment in Massachusetts! To start a little bit about me. I was an extensive collector and grower of cacti, rare tropicals, CP's and orchids but sadly my apartment lost power last winter and froze everything to...
Do drosera spatulatas 'fraser island' produce viable seeds? I've read somewhere that they don't make viable seeds and the only way to make more is leaf and root propagation. If they don't make viable seeds, I'm outta luck:/
Hey guys, I found a Drosera spiralis while out shopping and picked one up in spite of not knowing anything about it. I figured what the heck? I can always look on the ICPS site or check various other resources for information on this kind of thing. D. spiralis doesn't seem to be on any of the...
I have two cuttings of a shapely reddish clone of N. campanulata, for trade with U. campbelliana or extreme clone of D. multifida 'Extrema'. A small quantity of U. campbelliana will do, as long as the propagation material is viable and healthy. As for the D. multifida 'Extrema', I'm looking only...
Hello everyone,
A very interesting plant has come up in my collection from seed of a Giant Red form of Drosera burmannii. I am looking for ways to asexually propagate or clone this plant, because I have learned that self-seeding does not result in genetically identical plants. I have taken...
We apologize for the misunderstanding regarding a recent giveaway thread. There was a simple miscommunication between individuals, and that giveaway will not be occurring. Plants collected from the wild are entered into the NASC propagation program, and only members in good standing on the...
I was checking one of my little propagation containers and to my surprise one of my seedstalk clippings has turned and grown up through the sphagnum to get to the light.
I wonder if it will grow a root or flower or what?
input?
Several months ago I noticed what appears to be a D. spatulata growing next to the pot wall in the D. nitidula x pulchella pot. Didn't give it much thought until I noticed how well it is producing goo. I transplanted it into a container of bright green sphagnum and it looks excellent. I added a...
So I was walking around my local wal-mart and ventured into the lighting department. As I was looking around I came across so florescent lights designed to be mounted under kitchen cabinets. As I looked at the packaging I saw that you can very easily wire them inline and had an idea. The housing...
For those of you that are members of the ICPS you might have read my article regarding propagation of D. capensis utilizing wounding and cytokinin to induce more prolific bud formation. For those of you that are not, if you are interested in reading it shoot me a pm and i'll email it to you...
I received these attenboroughii seeds from Jeremiah on Saturday, November 17 and sowed them the next day. They are in a propagation dome with a heating pad underneath to keep the temp near 80F during the day and dips down to about 76F at night.
Almost 2 weeks later!!!! :-D
Also tried...
Just some pics.. feel free to add if you like.
A couple D. montana var. tomentosa that arrived about 2 weeks ago.
in the pot next to that, D. graomogolensis on peat (rather than LFS). Experimenting with different medias atm..
a couple of the LFS pots, first up D. ascendens...
