I picked up a bag of this while I was at the hydroponic store this weekend.

Has anyone used this product before? Any ideas on the application or which plants would really benifit from this? So far I am just using it in place of perlite. The guy assured me that I...
Okay everyone, I found this awesome, Victorian-looking, glazed ceramic washbasin in my grandparent's basement. It's mine now. I have been mulling over what to do with it for a few months now and i have finally decided. I want to dedicate it to some tropical pings. I need some advice though...
I have some P. gigantea growing indoors by my windowsill that I'd like to repot. Two of them are growing fine and have already overgrown their 3.5" pots. The third one seems to be struggling with almost no root structure. I'm guessing it's because of my media mix which consists mostly of perlite...
I have been experimenting with different soil combinations that are just as effective but are cheaper to create. I have noticed that bags of pumice are nearly half the price of perlite, and I was wondering if it is just as effective in draining and aerating the soil.
Experts please post you...
Hello once again TF mems, I recently bought a heliamphora minor. I've had it for a month, barely and it's struggling for its life!!! I received it in 100% sphagnum moss, but ever since I received it leaves started to turn brown. I'm keeping it in a terrarium with a glass top. Not sure what the...
So, my Nepenthes ampullaria seeds finally came in on Friday and I planted them last night. The seeds are three months old. I have them under two plant lights. One tray had a 1:1 ratio of vermiculite and peat. I microwaved the peat first to kill any bacteria or whatever. I told mom I wanted her...
So I recently purchased a P. colimensis that looks like it was just emerging from its succulent phase and somewhat stupidly stuck it into a standard Mexiping mix. It's been under lights on a 16 hr photoperiod and has literally not moved in weeks. I recently lifted it straight up (no roots...
Hello everyone!
So I recently the Welwitschia mirabilis I ordered came in, and it was very much in need of a transplant. But it's fairly well known that these plants detest being unpotted. But I made up the media, and did it today, and took some pictures for prosperity. I really hope this...
Hello everyone,
I wanted to ask if anyone here knows how often to water this plant. A friend of mine gave me two of these plants as gift for me. I have never grown these before and did my own research but also thought I would get advice from someone who grows it. I place the plants in a 12inch...
In March, I moved my N. ampullaria to a bigger pot and used substrate I mixed up. It turns out I didn't buy the proper ingredients, so I ended up using large orchid bark chunks, sphagnum moss, perlite, and tropical potting mix. He doesn't seem to dislike the substrate. I am concerned about the...
I took some cuttings today and I'm really wanting them to survive so I thought I would check in with you all about some things.
1) I took some cuttings of veitchii and I was wondering what you guys think on cutting the leaves in half like you would with a lot of other species to help retain...
So my girlfriend and I were both getting tired of not being able to open my bathroom door fully because of the ginormous grow rack I built to replace the Lowes one that collapsed from the weight of all my plants... So I downsized everything! Also I needed something that took less effort to take...
Drosera graomogolensis Itacambira, Minas Gerais, Brazil
This is one of the easier to grow and propagate South American species. Growing them long term (3+ years) is a little tricky though. I recommend you keep plenty of backups from leaf cuttings. This is certainly one of the most attractive...
I have tried to grow nephs from seed twice the first time i tried to start them in the dark then moved to light. the seed were on long fiber sphagnum moss in a ziplock bag which i kept sealed and would just spray it with water when ever the condensation inside would decrease. I let it go for...
Hey just wonderin' if any of you microwave or do anything special to your peat to kill algae, bacterium, and fungii? I microwaved some a month or two ago and cyanobacteria and algae still grew and ruined a tray of seedlings. I thought I nuked it pretty good. As always, I "wash" my peat and...
Hello All!
I've made a few posts here and there over the last year but I figured it was finally time to (re)introduce myself. My name is Matt and I'm a carnivorous plant enthusiast from central Pennsylvania. Some may remember me from quite a while ago in my teenage and early college years...
Last summer I decided to build a floating island for some plants out of a large net pot and some empty drink containers with the idea that I would put it in the lake behind my house.
Some info:
-The lake water TDS tests at around 170-180 PPM.
-Media is around 60/40 to 70/30 perlite/sphagnum...
so i got 5 roridula.dentata seeds and i sowed them on a mix of 2/1 perlite and peat ,no special treatments and i did not cover the seeds to increase humidity,as i thought covering the seeds would also increase the chance of fungus,so far three out of five seeds are showing signs of life if...
I am going half on a bail of ProMix BX and was wondering if it would be possible to use as a soil mixture for a cephalotus. The ingredients are:
• Canadian Sphagnum peat moss (75-85 % / volume)
• Perlite -horticultural grade
• Vermiculite - horticultural grade
• Dolomitic and Calcitic limestone...
