My Sarracenia Alata flower has been open for several days, but I haven't seen a single insect come near it. Does anybody know what type of insects pollinate them or what time of day I should be looking for them? I'm hoping to get a picture.
Today's weather is partly cloudy with temperatures...
I have a two crown division of S. alata for trade. It is flowering right now, but the flower is deformed so I could not pollinate it. I would like to trade it for well… just about anything not on my list. Most of the plants I seriously want are much more valuable lol. If interested please email...
I'm offering a blooming size Leptotes bicolor, currently in spike. L. bicolor is a miniature member of the Cattlyea alliance and is a very easy orchid to grow. Very suitable for a bright windowsill. And as a bonus, the seed pods are a source of vanillin and are used like regular vanilla beans...
I have a time lapse video I made here:
Because I was afraid of rot and not as dilligent as I should have been I let the plants get too dry several times. This probably set them back. Their rhizomes have gone deep into the pots and I can tell the leaves come from deep down. All these plants...
So this here is my first seed pod of what I believe to be P. planifolia X 'Pirouette' but I have to say despite my hopes I am a bit skeptical. I was under the impression that P. planifolia could not hybridize with the Mexican pings and if it was to self pollinate it needed pollen from a...
Apparently I was right about my N. x 'Melvino' flowering. I got it in June and it just opened up a new leaf revealing a thick flower stalk. It is a boy. The problem is that my N. ventricosa x talangensis is close to opening. My N. ventrata is also starting to open the lower flowers which is...
Greetings all!
I think I am done playing Bumblebee for the season. I know we are getting a little late in the season (at least for CA) but if anyone wants some pollen, here is what I have left over:
- one packet S. x 'Adrian Slack' (Rob, you get first dibs here)
- about 4 packet S. leucophylla...
Updated 5/29/2013: Still have some takaiensis seeds available for trade.
This plant.....
I have tens of thousands of seeds available for trade. Above is a picture of a few of the many parent plants that are constantly spraying seeds all over the place! If you have ever had success...
Drosera venusta × capensis seeds
I crossed these earlier by clipping off the anthers on both parents flowers and using the other species to pollinate the other. Unfortunately I routinely cut off flower stalks on D. capensis to keep their population down and muscle memory took over and I clipped...
I have never collected seed from any of my plants and now have a quick question in regards to pollination. I have one of the "lovely" purpurea 'smurf' plants that is current in dormancy in the cold garage under some cfls with other plants. It is forming a flower bud at the crown... so I want to...
Hi all,
The NASC is looking to add interested people to the Growers Committee.
You must be a current member of the NASC to become a grower. The NASC is looking for people who have experience with growing Sarracenia to maturity with appropriate space and conditions to grow, pollinate, and...
This past spring I got some Sarracenia flava rubricorpora pollen to use on my S. alata "black tube", and despite some initial problems - I had to pollinate the flowers as I was in the process of moving to Mississippi and my pollen got waterlogged in the cooler - I did end up getting some seeds...
Currently I have a female N. maxima starting to flower. Maybe if temperatures hold flowers start opening next week or the week after. See attached picture. This is a large N. maxima. Has very nice lower pitchers.
Picture taken today:
standard trade. 50% of seeds produced (if any) with...
The new tomentosa is liking its new house.
Will it self pollinate? Will I be able to collect seeds from this one ? Will they be true (just as the parent)?

....oh boy, i get to make yet another first endeavor very soon. *need help*
mainly need tips in the arena of cross pollinating them.
Looks like one of my dielsiana and one of my nidiformis are making seedstalks at the same time and they are planted very close to each other. Anyone have any...
I have had trouble with collecting sarra seed to put in the freezer before, so I made a little disposable tool to help with this and while I was taking pics of how to make it I desided to show how to pollinate sarras for people who don't know how.
I will start with pollination.
Here are some...
Over the course of about three hours this morning and early afternoon, i had the chance to take some shots of an opening Opuntia flower.
The flower bud on the right is just about to unfurl, while the one on the left should be opening in a couple of days.
I took a series of overhead and...
only made 2 so far and some seed pods that i have cross pollinated and im waiting for the seeds
i pollinate them by completely removing the anthers with tweezers from both flowers, then washout both flowers with distilled water and dab them with a tiny twisted up napkin to soak up the water...
