My area used to be abundant with ants but now with the addition of new subdivisions and the like on my street, more rich-*** snobs are using more ant deterrents, and I believe as a result that the ants are disappearing. This happens to be hindering my current project, building an ant farm out of...

So I was cleaning out my kitchen cupboards today when I decided to throw away a box of ginseng extract that seemed to have been attracting ants. I removed the last few bottles and went to dump the ants out over my Neps when I noticed that they were tending eggs! I think I spotted a queen in...
My hobby of growing Carnivores is new. My Name is Nancy and I live in Baltimore, Maryland. I grow orchids and wanted some companion plants for them to help keep down the bug population. I have mostly gnats and ants. I have two Sundews, two Northern Pitcher Plants, one Ping, and one Venus...
Never eat in your bedroom. You know why?
There are fire ants crawling everywhere. In my bed, on the floor, in my clothes, etc.
However, in staying optomistic, I figured this is a great chance to capture as many as I can as food for my plants.
When I had some large female crickets, I put in two small nest boxes for them to lay eggs in. The crickets hatched a few weeks ago, so since they were big enough to see well now, I thought I would count them. I thought I had maybe 150-200....turns out I have 614! That's a lot of crickets!!! I...

Can I feed my Fire Bellied Toads something other than crickets? Crickets are not cheap and now that all of mine died because of the darn ants, I kinda don't want to do it again. I heard that mealworms are too tough for the frogs. My husbands coworker said he used wingless fruitflies, but aren't...
I didn't know where to post this. This doesn't have anything to do with my frogs, but with what I'm feeding my frogs. I need help asap please! I got 250 crickets on Wednesday, now about half of them are dead because they were attacked by ants. I have a massive army of ants in the bin that I'm...
This is just a general little poll. :)
What are your thoughts on giving Cephalotus a small dormancy like it experiences in the wild? In the wild, it apparently goes through light frosts and a chilly winter, where it stops growth or slows down. In Wisconsin, in the windowsill I grow it in, lows...
This morning I just noticed a couple small black ants on my Nepenthes. They seemed attracted to the tiny beads of nectar that formed on the underside of the leaves. I just checked the plant a few minutes ago and now the plant has a large number of the ants on it, all sucking on the nectar beads...
My collection is starting to grow pretty well now. I figured I'd take some pics to help me document their growth. There pretty low quality and my camera skills are terrible (I was gonna post some pics of my capensis and binata too but I couldn't get the camera to focus and they were blurry) so...
The monsoon isn't over, it rains often. Revisiting the giant ampullaria territory and explore another area.
N.ampullaria "Hot lips" were common and were as huge as the giant green form. The amp., varieties are growing among hookeriana, raff, but not many gracilis and mirabilis.

ONE Recently, when I went to McDonald's I saw on the menu that you could have an order of 6, 9 or 12 Chicken McNuggets. I asked for a half dozen nuggets. "We don't have half dozen nuggets," said the teenager at the counter. "You...
I know its not a reptile or aquarium animal but thought it was colorful and someone out there is probably a butterfly fan. It's a palamedes swallowtail (Papilio palamedes).
Photo was taken on a site in Cumberland County, NC. I was being torn up by fire ants at the time as they were climbing...

This pitcher is on a plant that is outdoors, and it attracts flies and gnats. Gnats go in, and most get stuck on the wall of the pitcher, but the flies stay on the lid and don't go into the pitcher. Lately I've also seen ants walking on the peristome, and they don't fall in.
there's wasps in the pitcher plant forum
Ants in the sundew forum
worms in the Nep forum
mold in the vft forum
and aliens chasing Clint all over the forums
