Hi guys! Been a member of the forums but never really post, but going to try to change that now. I currently live in Sunrise, Fl, a western suburb of Ft. Lauderdale, my neighborhood lies right up against the Everglades. Been here for about 3 yrs. I currently have a number of Neps, intermediate...
So, I'm trying to come up with a list of topics for a short presentation on CPs (15-30 minutes I'm guessing) aimed mostly at those with a high-school level science background or higher. Some of the things I want to talk about are the prehensile movement of Nepenthes tendrils, the mechanism of...

There was a stray ant near my growing area and I transferred it on my N. campanulata plant.
Few moments later, there were ants partying on the lid of one of the pitchers.
The party lasted for a couple hours, and when it was over, there were quite a lot of ants in the pitcher.
Managed to take a...

These maxima upper pitchers are eating ants like crazy. The dark lower portion of these pitchers are full of ants.
I tried to get a pic of the inside and this is the best I could do so far.
I was wondering if i could use cheetos as an ant attractant, then drop it in to my sarrs when it gets full of ants, or should i just put the ants in. would the cheetos be safe
Hello Friends,
Here's a few shots of a Mantodea (Praying Mantis) hunting ants from the mouth of a Sarracenia leucophylla pitcher at Splinter Hill Preserve. I have many more interesting photos, videos and reports coming, including a sit-down interview with Keith Tassin of TNC and a full tour of...
Hi! I recently fed some black ants to my droseras and i was surprised that most species (peltata, pygmies, rotundifolia, anglica, burkeana, etc...) suffered harm to their leaves and they died (of course ants escaped). Here is an example of d. anglica (note the dead new leaf):
Now is it the...
I went out yesterday and snapped some macros of ants (okay, there is only 1 pic but there are two in it!) and plants around. click to see them, dial up users be warned. I made them links because when I previewed the thread they were a little to big...
Tired of trying and failing to keep venus flytraps growing under lights year-round? Sick of dormancy and want to keep your little monsters out even in December? May I suggest this new and only specimen of this cultivar, Dionaea muscipula ‘Amigurumi’. This will be shipped bare-root (not potted...
Hey thought it was about time I gave posting pics a shot. I know it's not much but this is my pride and joy, my only Nepenthes that I have at the moment and the first that I have been able to keep alive for a going on three years now. It's had a rough existence living in Alaska, where...
In Australia they believe they can use the native meat ant to kill of the young toads as they morph into adults. Its very interesting, and a very good idea. Also it has a little pun in their, ants DO have hearts, just the toads toxin can't harm them. :nono...
Well, in the eyes of ants it is spring. :-D
Formica worker with a worm.
I also saw a Poliste fuscatus queen but, she flew off. So here is a Poliste dominula queen.
lol, I keep ant colonies. Here is my new Camponotus colony. They are known as carpenter ants because they love to nest in strong, yet soft moist wood and not the ground. Ok here are the pictures, the queen is somewhere under one of the ant piles. This species has queens that don't like to wake...

This was fascinating. I've been studying Environmental Bio my whole life and just learned about this on the Science channel. I'm going to let my wife know about this. She is a Bio teacher and it would be a good symbiosis class example of mutualism. Were all of you familiar with this? Learn...
This is happening to you right now!
Poor beetle. He gets swallowed up by my VFT and then when he finally chews a hole through it, the fire ants come and attack him, lol. He's still alive too! I'm guessing not for long though.
