    Bical and Sugar Ants

So, my pictures aren't as amazing as Larry's, but I still wanted to share this. My bical is buzzing with activity! (the pitcher pictured also houses a little green spider under the lid- where it's poofed to, I don't know. I wanted a picture of it chillin under the lid though and I'd call the...

    Cool yellow jackets

Found these guys eating a piece of meat I left out. I was hoping to attract flies, but these guys showed up instead, along with ants. Taken with my new Canon T2i with mp-e 65mm lens. :-D

    Dionaea 'Microdent' and "Dracula"

I got a couple of very small divisions of 'Microdent' and "Dracula" in a trade recently. I thought that the "Dracula" might die because it was so small and stressed. It took forever to start growing and almost all of the growth that it came with is dead now, but it's putting out new growth now...

    VFT Food Selections

Sorry guys, I have to ask. What kind of bugs to feed my VFTs. I know enough not to feed them hotdogs at least... I fed my typical rosette a small beetle that was crawling around and also tried a small cut piece of earthworm in another trap on the same plant. We'll see what happens. I wanted...

    need help with new bog

Okay, this probably sounds ridiculous and pretty noobish. Anywho, i made a bog for a few of my plants and right now ants are swarming all over them. I don't know if i'm being paranoid or not, but either way, i'm afraid the ants might be a problem. Should i get a pesticide to deal with them and...

    Help! Ants in my pants!

So one of my giant mini bogs is infested with very small black ants. I think I already lost my judith hindle and my 2 Sarracenia alata Sam Rayburn Resevoir, TX clones :( I noticed they would be growing fine and then the growth would just flop over similar to if the plants were drying out...

Many ant pictures if your interested. (DUW)

So, Saturday was bright, sunny, in the 70's and there was no wind around so I just had to visit my favorite anting spot. I was hoping to find some tadpoles to take pictures of but had no luck. So I spent the next 3 hours trying (very unsuccessfully at first) to take pictures of the plentiful...

    Cephalotus problems

Ok, to make sure that I cover all the bases I'll give a rundown on the chain of events... 1. 2 months ago I got my cephalotus, it looked good and I noticed it was in a peat/sand mix. I was told that it would be fine in such a mix and I read that in dense mixes like that it is better to keep it...

    2 questions

First, my minibog seems to attract a ton of tiny black ants, I mean hundreds.. Maybe for the water but idk, is this a bad thing? Second, can drosera and sarr seeds do just fine with the water tray method or do they need to be top watered until they germinate?

Which is better for neps (bugs)

Hi everyone....I'm not sure if there is even a answer to this Q but i still have to ask. Aside from fertilizing your neps..You can feed them with bugs right? So it got me thinking if there are certain bugs more "nutritious" too the neps???? My neps usually catch ants but how bout stuff like...

    New 58mm macro filters!

Hey guys, today I got some new macro filters in the mail. Honestly they are probably the best 17 dollars I have spent on anything I want. They are prefect for taking pictures of plants and ants. I have 10x, +4, +2, and +1 filter. Most of the following pics were taken with just the 10x but using...

    Some Sarracenia shots...

Hi Friends, Here's a few shots from back when things were growing nicely, to warm everyone up until Spring. Sarracenia vs. Bee; Sarracenia wins! :) Here's a Mantid stealing ants from the mouth of a S. leucophylla. And.....Mantid wins! For the time being... ;) Happy Growing, Brian.

    black bugs

I noticed some little black bugs that looks kind of like sugar ants walking on my neps inside my house. I don't see any pitcher or leaf damage at all. I couldn't get a good picture because they're small and my camera is crap. I have placed an online order for ladybugs just to be safe. I plan to...

    Ants on Rhizomes??

hello all, well after re potting my Sarracenias, I saw that my bigger pots had thousands of ants inside the potting media and where concentrated on the Sarracenia rhizomes. I didn't see worms or anything of such thing but the ants where all over them so I sprayed them with a 3 in 1 product but...

    Grrrr...mealybugs/dormancy

Hi, I've been trying to treat 3 of my pitcher plants heavily infested with mealybugs to no avail. Started off with using Safer Brand 3-in-1 Garden Spray that contains mostly sulfur-- didn't work. Then tried using isopropyl alcohol 70% dabbed with cotton swabs all over the plants--that was a...

    I gotta do it again

I've been out of the CP business for far too long. Bear with the story, it's out of nostalgia! I have questions at the bottom for those who do not wish to read it. Thank you! :) Yeah, if you're an older member of this forum you'll recognize me. I was like 12 years old when I joined. When I...

Digital ‘ants’ take on computer worms

Digital ants could soon be crawling through your computer's hard drive, but don't worry, they are there to help. Scientists from Wake Forest University and the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory have created an army of digital ants and their superior officers, digital sergeants and...

Nepenthes peristome more effective when wet

I had read that Nep peristomes were more effective when wet, and seen a video on youtube of this and decided to give it a go. Lately hundreds of ants have been all over my N. truncata pitchers. I decided to give the pitcher a light mist right on the peristome. As soon as this occurred of course...
