Available for trade: a division of S. x Umlauftiana!

I have one small division of Sarracenia x Umlauftiana available for trade. Its pedigree is: S. [(purpurea x psittacina) x (leucophylla x psittacina)] This is a single crown suitable for a 3 or 4" pot and is currently dormant (although it still has some leaves from last season) I can't say that...

    Myrmecodia tuberosa eaten :(

Ugh I'm so disappointed. I just got this baby ant plant last week and this morning I came out to find the bulb is completely eaten and only the leaves are remaining. I was wondering if any of you have experience growing these and if its possible to somehow get the leaves to make a new bulb? My...

    looking for Hydnophytum simplex

I'm looking to round out my ant plant collection. Hydnophytum simplex doesn't seem to be very common in the US (it's easier to find in the UK) but maybe it has made its way over the ocean in recent years. We can discuss what I have to trade in the rare event that someone owns and can part with...

    Ant drinking maple syrup (pic)

Not too much of a story here...I put a drop of maple syrup out in the garden to try and coax ants to stop for a taste and pose for some photos for my blog. This was my favourite. Two Ant plants (Myrmecodia beccarii) seedlings growing on wood. (mylesG $25)

A while back I stuck a couple Myrmecodia beccarii seeds to a cut of lake driftwood. They've survived pretty well on it despite my neglect. The sparse foliage is due to a recent string of neglect that left them shrunken from thirst. It isn't a very attractive piece and I expect the wood to fall...

    The Orchid Trail

I recently discovered a rather amazing place about 20 minutes from where I live that has more orchids in their collection and for sale. For anyone even remotely interested in orchids it is a must see if you are ever in the Raleigh, NC area. Anyway, here are some of the pictures I took to show...

How fast should Drosera Capensis move?

Howdy. I have a question about Drosera Capensis and how it feeds. I've always been under the impression that a Drosera Capensis leaf will curl over prey in a matter of hours. I just fed mine a large ant and the leaf completely curled over in less than 10 minutes. Is this normal?

Photos from a two-day RC glider contest ~DUW~

This past weekend I went to a two day radio controlled glider contest in Visalia, CA. This sport actually gets really, really competitive, with many models going for $2,000 or more. I don't have any of those. What I was flying was a $60 kit built Gentle Lady and a discontinued kit built Spirit...

ant receiving a drop of honeydew from an aphid (photo)

Hi all, My latest blog is about photographing ants...which are everything that a macro photographer looks for: they are small (pretty much a prerequisite for macro), attractive (some of them at least) and best of all, they do interesting things. The photo below is a western thatching ant...

Darlingtonia in Southern Oregon Siskiyou Mountains

A lot of these pics were taken in the rain, figures the day before we got there it was sunny with temps in the 90s. A soggy camping trip, but well worth it. Amazing the diversity of these plants. I saw them growing on rocky hillsides, in gravel that looked dry on the surface, clinging to rocks...
