OK folks, I have a terrarium that is about 3 feet by 2 feet by about 18 inches tall. The utrics and Drosera in there are all in live moss and were it not for the aphids that persist despite neem, soap/oil spray and total immersion in water for as long as 5 days... they and the D. prolifera...
Hi all
I am getting frustrated with not being able to get ideal conditions for my Drosera.
Can I please get some advice as I am just about to give up on these :(
I have a shelf set up in my bookcase with 5x 2ft T5 HO fittings, complete with nano reflectors.
First of all the temperature was far...
right now i am using 1:1 perlite/spaghum peat.
I have lfs but don't really care for it....seems to hold too much water for my liking. don't really care for the coco peat bc i have seen bad things happen to neps when it is of low quality.
I would like to add something else to help "loosen" the...

Hello,
Recently I came across this and got it on the cheap. Some sort of heater made of resin and styled to look like a rock, I assume for a reptile habitat. I did a bit of reading and found mixed reviews/emotions about using such things, especially as the sole source of heat in a reptile...
I'm worried about my N. ventricosa. It doesn't appear to be doing well. But it never does this time of year, I guess. Maybe because it's near the heater, even though it doesn't blow on it. I assume a repot would help.
But I have a basal, too. I was thinking I'd have to pot the mama plant...
I took pictures of the native birds.
I love the Kiskadees that come by, their calls are adorable and their plumage is regal.

I love the House Sparrows that live here, they remind me of finches, they are very reclusive though...
Hi everybody!
Recently I have become rather interested in getting a beginner film camera, just as a bit of a fun hobby within a hobby. I was looking around an the only one that my local camera store will order is this one:

I was wanting to grow some bioluminescent mushrooms along with some CPs in a terrarium. Is that possible and would I need a sealed lid on top of an aquarium to prevent humidity from escaping?
Also do any of you know how to build metal framed Wardian Cases? I assume it would be the same...
So, a couple of days ago we went to the state's capital, Xalapa, and in a flower expo I saw some really nice CP's, (actually I bought a D. capensis, D. burmanii and D. madagascariensis)...
There were other, like VFT's, like 2 or 3 Nepenthes and a couple Sarracenias... God, they were gorgeous...
I've read two things... Seeds are extremely sensitive and should not be fertilized, and fertilizing seeds can help them... What's the deal with this? I have MaxSea fertilizer and I mix 3/4tsp with a gallon of water (a bit less than that proportion because I had to calculate that into my 22oz...
The inflorescence stalk of my D. burmanii is as of today over 7 inches tall (actually it has a support 'cuz otherwise the weight may uproot the plant) and has over 12 blossoms developing...
However... The irony!
The plants seems to be dying!
I assume it is 'cuz it is hard for it to sustain...
This post just became the "summary" of the build. All the pictures I posted here of the build are now in this first post. The original first post is quoted at the end of this one.
And here's the quick video tour:

I have some fresh Proboscidea parviflora var. hohokamiana seed available for a SASE. Most of the seed was harvested in October or early November of this year (2011).
This is a US only offer.
For anyone that is also interested, I still have lots of seed from my 2008 and 2009 harvests...
Hey guys, just wanna ask if you were given a choice to buy either a veitchii lowland and a maxima lowland both for the same price and are about the same size which would you get? I stay in typical lowland conditions so i would assume a maxima lowland would better than a veitchii..Anyway give...
Hello
Up for giveaway are seed pods of fresh D. anglica. This is a temperate sundew and would be recommended only for those that can give it a solid Winter dormancy.
Each giveaway portion consists of perhaps a dozen seed pods, all with varying amounts of seed in them. I do not know of the...

Hi all. All summer long one of my front gardens, the one which has a barrel bog, some mini-bogs and flowers has been the hunting ground of an immense hoard of male Common Whitetail (Plathemis lydia) dragonflies.
I klnow that they are there feeding off of the insects attratced by the plants but...
Hey guys,
So, last week, my friend and I decided to order some plants from an unnamed vendor. All of the plants came un-potted and, with the exception of two, looked rather sickly. This is especially true for the ampullaria we ordered. The day it arrived it already looked a bit thin, but two...
So I have a plant rack set up in my apartment. It has the standard 4' wide T5/8s, wireframe shelf, with the plants being about 4-8" away from the lights. (Smallest pots are 8" away, my neps gets closer to 2-4ish.
All sides of the rack including top and bottom are covered in tinfoil to...
