I have a D. lanata that is now sending up a scape. I understand that Petiolaris Complex require another plant to pollinate. I'm hoping that anything in the fishtank will also flower, but so far nothing is inclined to do so. Is it possible to cut the stamens and preserve the pollen?
my male nepenthes (i'm pretty sure it's a male at least) has just opened its first flower today. if anyone wants any pollen then let me know and i'll send you some. this is my first nepenthes flower, so i'm not really sure what to do with it other than cut the flowers off when someone wants...
I have a male N. x 'Judith Finn' in flower now, and the first flowers already have pollen coming off of them. So if anyone wants some, just pm me your address and I'll send it off.
If anyone could tell me how much you need to send off in order to pollinate a flower, that would be nice. Could...
My mom recently sent me this picture of my forked sundew with a flower stalk. I'm not 100% on the species because I got it as a hitch hiker, but I'm pretty sure it's a D. dichotoma 'small red form'. The dealer I got it from said it's the only species he has that spreads around the greenhouse...
Finally, my VFT's flower has opened! I thought it would be tiny, but it's pretty big, compared to my capensis flowers. Is there any special way to pollinate it? Like waiting a while then doing it or something? I just tried to pollinate it now, there's a bunch of pollen parts and one thing in the...
Update 8/6/08 - There are 7 more packets of seeds left.
I'm pleased to announce a Drosera ordensis seed giveaway. Two of my mature ordensis plants have flowered at the same time last month, and I'm fortunate enough to have been available to hand pollinate them. I pollinated the two plants in...
Well, after having this plant around for a while, it's flowering. I am familiar with how to pollinate these things, and so I have been doing that as the flowers open. They open 1-2 at a time interestingly, and close within about 36 hours of opening.
I have heard people say that many of the D...
Nepenthes bicalcarata x ampullaria- does this happen in the wild naturally?
is this a hybrid?
can one strain pollinate with another strain of the same species and create a new strain naturally?
does anyone know of any books or webpages about this i would not know where to start?
A customer came to my line to buy an acid brush and it only cost 24 cents. It came from the plumbing section. It's about 3/8" wide. Whaddya think of it as a tool to hand pollinate Sarracenias?
one of my spring plant orders showed up 2 weeks earlier than i was planning on, to early to put them outside yet:
left to right is a bare root white currant, female seaberry "Sunny", male seaberry, arctic raspberry 'Anna', thimbleberry and another arctic raspberry i forget the...
One would think that by now that I would have had American pitcher plant flowers. Last year I had an S. alata send up a scape, but the plant died. But this spring, the result of a recent trade, I have gotten / am getting 2 S. catesbei flowers, 2 S. Scarlet Belle, and of all things - a cobra...
Hi all,
I am planning to recieve some D. arcturi material in a week or two. The thing I'm most worried about is the dormancy. I've been researching, and here's what I have so far:
D. arcturi
Altitude: 1400m - 1080m to sea level.
Not self pollinating; need to pollinate.
Grow on banks of...
Two of my P. lusitanica are putting up flower stalks and I think my P. primuliflora is also. With that in mind I have a few questions.
1. are P. lusitanica and P. primuliflora self pollinating (if not, how to pollinate)
2. can they be crossed
3. if so, can someone post detailed instructions...
After a somewhat thorough search on this subject, and not finding exactly the answer I wanted, I figured I'd give it shot. It's been maybe 1.5 months since I repotted and split a tiny pot of D. Adelae into 5 medium/small plants. Now at least two of them have flower stalks forming, (I'm...
I'm moving this topic to a broader audience. Great information and technique on properly pollinating your Sarracenia flowers. Beautifully illustrated with photos, too. Thank you Brooks!

I pollinated my so called nepenthes edinensis. I know it isnt the actuall edinensis but that unknown hybrid. The nepenthes miranda pollen is what i used to pollinate it as thats all i had. And it almost looks like it was successful. but being my first nep to pollinate i am not sure what it...
Hi,
My D. regia is in bloom and i would like to produce seeds. The problem is that the flowers are closing before they are producing pollen i would like to pollinate the flower, is it normal for the flower to not produce pollen. Or is the D.regia self pollinating...
when one of my orchids flowered last year, i was bored and so decided to pollinate it. this has resulted in a large amount of rather dust like seed. i have had no previous experience growing orchids (other than putting them on a windowsill and watering them), and so i was wondering how to grow...
