    Salutations from Stumptown

I hate introductions, haha. I feel obligated to write them, but I never know what to say. Might say I'm an artist, I draw way too much, paint, sculpt, etc. (I drew my avatar, just sayin') I have a lot to improve on, but doesn't everyone? Planning on starting a web-comic soon, but that's neither...

    Tap water overflow..

Hey Guys, I haven't logged on here in a couple weeks due to vacation and all. I have a 10G paludarium that is divided (siliconed so no water can get from the land side to the water side). On the land side, I had some sundews and VFTs. They weren't growing too well because they were just moved...

    Bigmouth VFT for trade

Hello everyone, I will be repotting and dividing my pot of Bigmouth VFT's this week, I should have around 10 or so that I can trade (half inch size traps approximately). The variety I have is a very vigorous clone that clumps rapidly, so just 2 or 3 plants can give you 15 or so in a year's...

    Mineral deposit on leaves: damage?

Hi guys, I just noticed that my neps are starting to get a lot of mineral deposit on their leaves. I have been using a ultrasonic humidifier to increase humidity and lower temps. However, since I do not have a RO system in my apt and I can only get limited RO water (for now), I use regular tap...

    Bigmouth VFT needs repotting

Looks like my bigmouth VFT needs repotting. Last spring there were only 5 plants in this pot, now I would estimate over 20 are in there. For reference, it is in an 8 inch pot. Amazing how they have multiplied in such a short amount of time. Here is a pic of it, let me know what you guys think...

    New H.minor!

I'm excited and I'm hoping I'm doing it right...I potted this guy up in about 2/3 lfs, 1/3 coarse orchid bark with a couple strands lfs running the length of the tap root (just straight down without any side roots..dunno if that's how they grow or if they got broken off during shipping). He's...

    Bog garden: First watering

Hello, I've filled up my bog container with approx. 100 litres of sphagnum peat moss (I guess that would be 26 gallons?). Now comes the hard part: getting the peat moss wet. Is it necessary to use distilled water, or can I just use tap water to get it moist, and then water with only distilled...

    A small, but good humidifier?

Can anyone recommend a small but effective humidifier (Non ultrasonic) that I can use in my growchamber? I have a Hunter cool air humidifier but it is not very effective and I want to get my humidity up. I want something that I can use tap water in, hence, the non-ultrasonic. Thanks. :)

How to thing for school, I did Nepenthes from seed...

Hello everyone, in school we were doing a "how to" guide of anything we ant to make it about. I decided to do "how to grow Nepenthes from seed" I honestly don't know why I chose this, because I only have done this once and I didn't even do it the way I explained to do it... and I only have 2...

Why can't I use tap water?

Okay, so there's all this talk about pings liking lime in their medium, making it alkaline for them.... If this is the case, why can't I water them with regular tap water? If they're so indiferent to the medium and actually can tolerate alkaline conditions, is it possible to forgo using RO and...

Hi All I have been growing Pinguicula for a couple of years now. I currently have around 20/25 species and hybrids and have been relatively happy with the results I have obtained. I recently had to change my grow area and so the plants are experiencing their first summer in their new grow...

Does distilled water work with Ultrasonic Humidifiers?

I recently purchased an ultrasonic humidifier. When I received it, I immediately tried it out and nothing... I read the directions of course and re-read them a few times. I checked the water level, tried many different containers and nada. When I got home from work a few days ago, my son who...

Hello to everyone on Terra Forums, Here's some background info relevant to my problem: I purchase reverse-osmosis water by the gallon because my tap water is full of dissolved solids. I have no plans to buy a reverse-osmosis filter because I am a renter, that someday, may have to move. Also...
