    Insider's Insight: Please Critique/Correct/Add To!

Beyond Beginner's Information: Insider's Insight This was originally written for my friend whose interest is piqued in Carnivorous Plants. I've worked very hard on this, but I don't doubt that perhaps I've forgotten anything meaningful or gotten something wrong. Please correct, or add other...

    My Home Wine Making

As some of you may know, I enjoy another hobby of wine making. After putting on 7 gallons of wine today (it will make about 36 bottles) I thought I'd just go a little in depth as to the process and what all is involved in case anyone else would be interested in doing this! Batch 1: Apfelwein...

    S. leucaphylla Tarnock culture

I bought a S. leucophylla "Tarnock" two springs ago at a garden center locally. It was/is in a 4"square plastic pot. It didn't really look large when I bought it, but it was the best I could get then. I keep my Sarracenia's outdoors spring to fall in full sun in water trays. Most of my CP are in...

Got a Deal on a Humidifier!

So on the advice of a wonderful forum member, I check out the local salvation army today. I walked out with an extension cord, an old coffee maker to cannibalize a cord ffor my new light fixture, and a NEW ReliOn ultrasonic humidifier. Grand total? $2.75 Now the real questions: Can I just use...

How to take care of a new heli division

First the disclaimer..... There are as many methods as there are growers. Some grow beautiful helis using methods totally opposite from these. It is not my intention to imply that you must follow these recommendations to be successful. I present this guide as what "I"do and what "I" believe...

Question about using Parrafin Heater with VFT ?

Hi all I lost a couple of my traps last year and I have managed to secure myself a green house. Only thing is I am a little concerned about the cold weather so I was going to use a anti frost parrafin heater, my only conern is the fumes... since these plants do not like tap water I wondered...

    Physalaemus' Sarracenia thread

I've been showing off my indoor collection so much lately that my Sarracenia are starting to get jealous. My Sarracenia collection is pretty small right now. I lost a couple plants moving across country in the middle of the winter, but I'm very happy with the stuff that survived / I've gotten...

    Dionaea cultivar or just neglect?

I bought this flytrap from a local nursery, the first one I've kept since the one I got (and promptly killed) as a kid. It was mixed in with a bunch of hybrid pitcher plants and being kept in the shadiest part of the nursery (north wall, no direct sun at all), so as you can guess, all the plants...

    New Lithops all planted *pic*

Just finished planting all of my new little lithops into a bowl... Had a hellova time separating them all.. There was 2-4 plants in each tiny little nursery pot and their tap roots had completely intertwined. But I was successful in the end. lol. I think it turned out pretty cool. :) :boogie:

    Welcome home surprise

Hi all, I recently returned home after 8 months I've been away for work just to find out that the person responsible for taking care of my CPs ignored most of my specific instructions and watered everything with tap water. My collection consists of Sarracenia, Drosera, VFT and nepenthes. To my...

    Compacting Soil

This maybe a silly noob question, but I'll ask it anyway :) When you pro's setup your pots before planting the plant, how much are you compacting the soil? Are you pushing it in with hands/tools or just tap the pot with the soil on the ground? Thank you.

    Real name of Pinguicula

So I have two Pinguicula and was told their name is Pinguicula 'John Rizzi'. Now I have been looking all over to see how to take care of them and all I've been getting are brief descriptions but nothing more and since I know almost nothing about CPs I'm kinda wanting more. :P So do these lovely...

    aquatic Utricularia water

So, I know aquatic utrics like acidic water but I have been wondering, does it have to be distilled? Can I just use water from the tap treated with fish dechlorinator? U. graminifolia and U. gibba might be able to grow like this, any info on that? What about U. inflata? Thanks. :)

A water conditioner that neutralizes copper?

Other than via reverse osmosis is there a water conditioner used for tap water that removes or neutralizes copper? I have a dechlorinator that says "neutralizes chlorine, chloramines and harmful metals instantly" but it doesn't specify which metals. I looked for something to reconstitute R/O...

My annual killie attempt (Nothobranchius palmqvisti)

Well, I had mentioned in my other fresh planted tank thread that I was going to give these guys a shot... Finally the date on the bag of peat in my closet came so I started some fresh brine shrimp early today, and this evening I dumped the peat into a small fist sized gold fish bowl and flooded...

Help me ID this struggling D. spatulata

So I'll start by saying that I'm thoroughly embarrassed to show you any plants in this state. This was my first CP - I got it around April. It was thriving for a long time - growing like a weed, spawning plantlets, flowering, clumping... the works. Then, about two months ago, one of the mature...

Pots in bogs versus planting without pots

The bog garden is doing well, and I'm a bit afraid of making any changes. It's fed by a natural spring, which unfortunately is not devoid of minerals, but at least low in them. The only problem I've encountered, besides the invasive weeds, is regarding the minerals from this spring water. They...

    A hello from Colorado.

Hello, I am new here. I was referred to this site by spdskr. Right now I only have the basic CPs that are easily gotten from Lowes and local garden centeres. I hope to get other types one day, or maybe even raise a CP from seedingly! I have a normal VFT, Drosera adele, Cape Sundew, Purple...

Can I water my Mexican Pinguicula with tap-water?

Can I water my Mexican Pinguicula with tap-water? Mexican butterworts are known to grow in richer soils, so I'm wondering if watering them with tap water would harm them. Should I try tap water or stick with rain water?
