A couple days ago our Home Depot received a shipment of CP's - 20 (typical) VFT's and 5 S. purpurea, ssp. venosa. I bought a purpurea, since all three of mine bit the dust in April. The gal who works for a plant vendor and does the maintenance for those plants asked me what to do with them. I...
I was cashiering in garden when a young woman approached me and said she had a question about VFT's. I assumed she was going to ask if we had any, which we didn't. It turned out that she bought one from a nearby Lowes and wanted to know how to take care of it. So I gave her the CP speech about...
so i spend about $2.00/week for a gallon of distilled H2O.
If take tap water from the faucet and bring it up its boiling point, would that mean that all the impurities are gone? Can i use this type of water for the vfts?
Hi guys,
I guess my VFT's have been pretty good to me so far. They have been able to withstand my conditions as they went from a single 13 watt OTT-lite to a 13 watt OTT LITE + 23 watt Lights of america sunlight desklamp + bright sunshade to give me beautiful red traps and nearly 2 inch traps...
What water is best for VFTs?
--distilled water
--rain water
--run-off water
--tap water that has sat for two days
--anything else you use, tell us
I am using distilled water, but its raining a lot, so should I collect some rain water?
Thanks for any help!
I purchased a r/o unit 9 monthes ago and it has worked great until recently.

if anyone know what would fix this please post.
the r/o unit is a 5...

Greetings Everybody!
I'm just getting into CPs. I had a hardware store VFT bought in 1968 or so that somehow managed to survive in a big jar on a kitchen window sill for 12 or so years. It might have lasted longer but sadly I went away to college leaving the plant behind (would Seattle be too...
I spent all of the spring and summer wheelin' and dealin' and replacin'.... and now it is time for me to fill my last order of "newbie kit" and call it a season.
Unlike the lab in which I worked, which had ample window sill space and a neglected refigerator (except for someone's beer), I just...

I use tap water for my humidifiers. Is this a bad thing? My neps seem to be doing ok, but some pitchers turned black, but then again they are also growing new pitchers. So I kinda get mixed ideas. Help me out.
I haven't posted here in a while, but I just decided to show some Before & After shots of some of my plants over the last 3 months.
S. purpurea
