Recently, I visited the gulf coast to meet the boyfriends parents. He'd told me he'd find sundews and pitchers growing wild in almost every ditch when he was a little boy. I was pretty excited, I've (still) never seen a carnivorous plant in the wild. First nature stop was the national park on...
Hello everyone.
Today is a very exciting day in my HL Nepenthes chamber to say the least. My Nepenthes spathulata's flower stalk has finally been harvested after 6 months of patience where I waited and hoped that I would get a few fat live seeds from the only two pods that survived from the...
I was thinking about putting a little competition in both my outdoor bog and indoor terrarium. I spy alot of peat moss growing wild on the outskirts of my yard; mainly want it as a garnishing and it is free! Will it play nice with the smaller/shallow-rooted drosera and will it play nice with...
I'm going to be making a two week fly fishing trip to Yellowstone later in the summer and was wondering if anyone knew if there were any locations that I could go and see some wild CPs. Seemed like an awesome place to look at some if I got a shot. :awesome:
I will be traveling to Virginia and Tennessee in a bit. Right along the border of the two, specifically. Can't do a long drive into the middle of either states, as I'd like to not waste a bunch of time looking for a bog. Not necessarily a bog, but just somewhere where I could look at sarrs...
i have been seeing a lot of nepenthes seeds on a popular auction website. all of these are being sent from south east asia. first question are these most likely wild collected? if not what are the chances of them being viable once they arrive?
Went camping last weekend, and was treated to a beautiful display of many different wild flowers. I got some shots inbetween swarming mosquitoes, and just about being killed by freak wind storms:banana2:
I thought these may be orchids, but after some googling, they are Delphinium nuttallianum...
Hello,
Here is a project I have been working on for some time now, Art photography of my considerable collection.
The compostions are arranged to give the subjects life, movement, tension & balance as oppossed to static specimen profiles with unbalanced negative space.
There are also shots I...
I managed to grab a hot minute and wanted to say hi to everyone. I've started my nursing classes on top of a usually full schedule so life is kinda wild right now but good! I'll do my level best to get some pics asap but the plants are doing so good!!! Even my capensis is looking awesome...
While trekking through through the wetlands surrounding the pond near my house I found large amounts of sphagnum moss. The area had very sandy soil, constant water, and lots of sun. It is a beautiful area, except it has been neglected greatly. There is trash everywhere, and people used the area...
Hola everyone! Haven't been able to post much lately because my internet access is extremely limited (just my phone unless I drive to find wi-fi), but this past weekend I went to De Soto National forest to check out the CPs and look for herps. I checked two new species off my list, Sarracenia...
I got some new lenses for my camera, and it got me inspired to get off my *** and get some fresh air :boogie: Came across some beautiful plants and thought I would share.
These were growing on a vertical wall.
Beautiful tiny flowers, no leaves to be seen.
Not sure what this is.
Tiny...
I know that in the wild S. psittacina has been known to capture aquatic prey during flooding. Does anyone know how long can they be submerged for, or if it would begin to rot or kill the plant due to flooding being a temporary thing? Would it be a possible way to help curb the "wigglers"...
One of my favorite things in life is to visit awesome wild places. When I do this I usually take photos - some better than others. This usually involves some plant shots as well as landscape photos. I hope you enjoy.
First installment: Hell's Canyon, Oregon/Idaho.
A view of the amazing...
$100 3" Darlingtonia?
Today I was checking out a new-to-me nursery in Redwood City. At the checkout counter is a little 3" Darlingtonia, not particularly fancy looking, with a sign: "RARE California Cobra Plant". Under that: "$91".
I understand that it is the right of the owner to ask what...
So I guess what I want to ask is... Is feeding pitchers going to provide more energy for plant growth than cutting the pitchers so the plant doesn't have to focus on putting out pitchers?
There's a few neps that I don't enjoy as much as I could and I think I would really enjoy the larger adult...
So my teacher mentioned in biology today that if carnivorous plants like the Venus fly trap, were to grow in nutrient/nitrogen rich soil. It would still grow and live, but it wouldn't produce any traps. Because it would be getting the nutrients/nitrogen it needs in the nutrient and nitrogen rich...
Just wanted to say hello to every one. I've long been an admirer of Sarracenia in the wild. Recently I have decided to finally purchase some plants of my own. So here I am. Really enjoying reading the forum so far.
