Can they be germinated?? They are hard like stones, so I'm pretty sure you'd need some kind of trick to get them started- scarification?? probably hot, wet stratification?? And if they DO grow, what then??
Someone asked me and I drew a total blank, but I like the fruit and if I could grow some...
I thought I saw a sprout last night and tonight confirmed it.
Seeds sown 2/25/07 after four weeks cold stratification in barely damp chopped NZ LFS. Sown onto Peat/Sand mix and sealed in plastic bag.
I decided to striate the seeds despite the consensus that it is not necessary. My rational...
Seeds were sown 02/18/07 on peat/sand mix.
Germination noticed today.
'Charles Darwin' seeds do not require stratification nor do the plants require dormancy. They may go dormant for a brief period (weeks) but that's it.
Hi,
I just planted my first nep seeds and was wondering with such a long time before germination, should/could I use ortho fungicide on the seeds?
I don't know if it's safe for nep seeds but have used it on drosera and sarra seeds during stratification because I had fungus problems.
thanks,
Zero
Due to my growing conditions I have always stayed with temperate species, but after getting my D. graomogolensis I have been bitten buy the bug so to speak. So I made a seed order which included the following tropical sundews:
D. aliciae
D. admirabilis
D. venusta
D. sessilifolia
D. auyan tepui...
after years of giveing advice and tending to others carnivorous plant terraniums i am makeing my own, this weekend with assistance from my fater we went outside and grabbed the old ten gallon fish tank, which was in the back of the old pick-up, i know hwat you might think "pick-up in the...
alright! i got successful Sarracenia germination! may not sound very big but they are quite lucky. they have been attacked by the dreaded mold!! this is also my very first germination of a CP requireing stratification.
Heres a list of so far germinated:
S. flava var rubricorpora-Liberty County...
Some sources say to cold stratify for four weeks, some say stratification is not needed. Some don't say.
What's the consensus with the successful VFT seed germinators here?
well this sucks. all the sarr seeds that i got (most location specific from Brooks Garcia) went moldy in the fridge for stratification. i salvaged what i could and dusted them with cinnamon and am now storing them dry until february so i can sow them outside. will that work? and are the seeds...
I'd like to try a cold stratification by the following method and would like your opinions:
What I want to do is take like 10 species / cultivars of seeds and set up plastic containers with a layer of LFS, filled with water, placed in my cold attic, by a window sill. What I am attempting to...
ok so i got a bunch of D. Burmanni seeds from a kind member. these are summer annuals so as long as it is hot can the seeds be sown at any time of the year? stratification?
thanks
Alex
Hello everyone,
I have a S.purpurea ssp. purpurea that has a seed pod that has accidentally been on since last year. It has gone through a winter on the plant. I harvested the seed today and have two questions:
1. Is the seed likely to be still viable?
2. If so, does the seed require...
Ok, so I kind of a newb here. I've loved plants my whole life, and always been intrigued by the venus flytrap. However, growing up in Oklahoma, I never had ideal humidity, or even survivable humidity for the that matter. I moved to Seattle when I was old enough to, and now, I finally, at 23...
I feel sort of like old Gandalf after he returned from his todo with the Balrog! I've been very sick for a year with a dermatitis (still unknown cause) and have been without a computer since last September. It's been a hard road, and although I am improving, there is a long stretch ahead yet...
Ok i was lucky enough to get some cephalotus seed from ICPS. So basically i heard that you dont need to stratify has anyone done tests to see if the germination is improved with and without stratification. I am guessing its best but just curious.
Took some purp seeds out of stratification today(and am really hoping they work well for me since I tried the paper towel method). Anyway, I put them into a container outside(peat and sand mix). Lo and behold we get a hard rain that night. Funny thing is that I somehow remembered them so got up...
Hello.
I have S. leucophylla "Big mouth form" that was supposed to be on the trade but I havn't got any messages from people who supposed to trade for almost a week so I put these seeds on trade. So, if anyone is interested, please PM me. They were harvested on last year (I didn't get the right...
Okay, we all know about stratification and what to do when we receive VFT or Sarracenia seeds. But what is happening in our Southeast? The mature plants wake up from dormancy and in the spring they produce flowers. From the flowers the seeds follow. If we are taught to spend ~3 months for seed...
What is the proper way of stratifying Darling-toe-nail seeds?
Can I use live sphagum in the wine cooler or do I have to freeze the seeds like for Sarracenia?
Has anyone heard of putting the seeds in paper towel or a thin layer of water and freezing/ thawing out occasionally for stratification? Someone(you likely know who you are and this is an invitation to discuss this method) mentioned them when sending some S. purpurea seeds with locality data...
