My N. Whisper started to open up its new leaf and I found a pest that I've seen before in my collection. I know how to get rid of it (well I guess not completely since it has popped up once before) but I'm just curious to know what it is.
It's always on the newest unopened nepenthes leaf. It...
Found a spider at my new house today. I believe it is a trapdoor spider of one sort or another, but I am really a noob when it comes to creepy crawlies. Can anyone confirm that this wont kill me?
I took these pictures of a boreal jumping spider (Phidippus borealis) feeding on a western tent caterpillar (Malacosoma californicum) last June. I spotted the spider just after it had caught the caterpillar and was dragging it across the leaf of one of the banana plants in my garden. It’s always...
Yesterday I grabbed my sweep net and went out into the garden to mess around and see what I could collect. After a couple of sweeps through some bushy plants I looked in the net and saw what I first thought (with my lousy vision) was a mosquito or midge because of the size and the long spindly...
Hello,
I'm also looking for Fly Traps not on my grow list.

Here is another picture of a zebra jumping spider that was hunting midges on my kitchen screen door. This spider chose to sit on the door’s white plastic frame. I was shooting with a ring flash, so the lighting is very flat. It’s not quite the same as shooting in a white box, but its close. I...
I’ve been taking photos of zebra jumping spiders (Salticus scenicus) that have been hunting mosquitoes on the screen door to my kitchen. These spiders are really endearing in their movements and “attitude”...it’s too bad they are so tiny. Imagine how much fun they would be if they were the size...
Found one of these pretty little guys living in my 'Snowflake' today.. Its a big female, and according to good ol wikipedia, it takes 2-3 weeks for them to change from their base color of white, to yellow.. To camouflage amongst the pitchers.. So she's been in there a while.
Unfortunately I don't have many plants to take photos of. Oh well.
I'll update this thread periodically whenever something neat happens.
A lovely Sarracenia leucophylla 'Tarnok' pitcher that's grown to be over a foot tall. It hasn't quite finished opening yet.

Ok, this isn't really an autopsy.... yet. My Nepenthes is still in the process of dying and I am pretty sure it is at the point of no return. I want to figure out what happened to it so I can try again.
First off, I had it for around 7 months give or take a few weeks. I had the plant shipped...
I saw this spider today out in my backyard. It was just parked on my back door, taking shelter from the wind. Quite a cool spider if you ask me, very nice camouflage!
Before I start this thread, I will inform you that this issue is not the infamous Curved-Leaf Syndrome.
This issue is not the infamous Curved-Leaf Syndrome.
Yes, indeed, it is I, Plant Planter, the one with the uncreative name, and my "Cupped Trap" plant is ailing.
Here's the deal. My lovely...
it seems unfazed by my attempts to eradicate it with hydrogen peroxide
its not actually white like in the pic, i should have turned down the light sensitivity on the camera.
its a pale green and its fuzzy like a spider web..
This is a very limited attack because I have been expecting it. I had a Chamedorea elegans or Parlor Palm in the same room that became infested so I took it outside and burned it and with millions of spiders on board I was sure that some had wandered into the Nepenthes bags. Today I used the...
Up for auction is a small propagated runner of a variegated spider plant, Chlorophytum comosum. I've had it lingering in my CP trays for quite some time. It will be shipped bare-root with sphagnum to protect the roots.

There is a multitude of flower types and colours available on the thousands of Satsuki varieties available, the main four being: Selfs-single colour, Fukurin-coloured centres with white edges, Sokojiro-white centre with coloured edges and Shibori-which covers all the stripped, half & half...
I bought this spider specifically to photograph, but it is also an interesting critter. I chose this species because they are easy to keep in captivity; they are very pretty; and they are docile. I do a lot of my photography on the kitchen table and didn’t want something that would take off and...
