Keith and a couple of other people have asked me to share some tips for photographing plants. It's taken me a while to get it together, but I've got a plan now: I'll write up a series of "lessons and exercises" you can participate in, if you wish. Here's the first one, and I hope that it is...
I suppose instead of wings, i should have said peristome.
That grand N. veitchii peristome, much like a ship's sail, needs enough to material to truly show its best potential.
That is why i'm quite excited that a couple of my N. veitchii varieties have finally turned that corner and are...

I am looking for a Lowe's N. ventricosa. They used to come in those cubes but I have not seen them sold at any Lowe's in over a year. I was reminded of this search I am on because of this thread. Others have grown them out as true species of ventricosa. I really would love to have this plant...

My Nepenthes Ventrata has suddenly become the center of attention today for a colony of small Ants. They are sucking up the sugar exuded by the nectar glands found on...
This plant is a 24" or more vine. Just got it today. It's labeled "N. x Unidentified", so it needs to be ID'd. It only has two upper pitchers, no lowers... So it kinda sucks ID'ing it...

Hey!
So, I'm just recovering from a year-long, near catastrophic bout with pests of various sorts, from that Hawaiin white scale to thrips to munching caterpillar things, and so on. I attribute it to the long-term use of fertilizers with indoor tray-based growing and hand watering, but that's...
Just snapped these shots this evening and figured I would share! Hope you enjoy!

Last year I bought an N. "ventricosa - black peristome". I've been looking through some older posts and have realized this is not the plant I have but probably a hybrid of N. spathulata x ventricosa. I've been wanting a ventricosa because I hear they are easy and can grow as house plants. So I...
For a number of years I've only grown HG Cephs. However, in the past two years (or so), I decided to add some genetic diversity and acquired several other plants. Since most of these plants are in the same conditions (under lights in back basement room - temps currently in low 50's*F and are...
I had a little bit of extra money once i got some priorities taken care of, and could not pass up the chance when i saw this baby come available, it is an original lowii x truncata, the main vines had been removed some time ago by the previous owner, but the plant is still of rather considerable...
Has anyone ever heard of a pitcher producing slime? It's a very dark green color. It's a new vogelii, and I noticed there was something black inside the pitcher, but I disregarded it until I realized there was more. I tipped the pitcher upside down a few moments ago and this black stuff oozed...
So here is my current grow list

The OHCPS is getting together for some fun and to oogle the greenery as a way to stave off the winter blues (though I have to ask, have we had a real winter yet?) at the wonderful Krohn Conservatory in Cincinnati, Ohio. The conservatory is a real treat, though they don't have many (read: only...
