My "mystery nep" has finally pitchered...sort of.
A clone of the parent plant pitchered. mama still has none, but mama doesn't fit under my lights so we're at the mercy of Mother Nature.
You may have seen the shots of pitchers that others have had with cuttings of this plant...
This is a small offshoot that I found when repotting a larger plant. This came from a wholesale place so I cannot vouch for it having rested through winter or not. The big plant looks fine. I'd like to get this guy to a better environment during these "formative years" than under my shop...
Some of you have seen the threads about the giant mystery nep that I bought last year; I can't fit it under lights so the parent is forced to deal with NE Ohio "sunlight" and remains pitcherless. I have 2 divisions that are working on pitchering under lights but here are some pics of the...
I have this seedling which came up this season which does not look like capensisi or binata which have infested other places. Im guessing its either aliceae or capensis x aliceae Do those two hybridise? Other possibilities are stenopetala, intermedia or anglica that some how jumped pots (much...
Some of you know of the giant mystery nep that I've been trying to ID. Well, I still have no pitchers but one of the divisions that I took is flowering quite happily. Some say it could be a "miranda" and therefore sterile, but since I have no proof of its ID I thought I might as well offer up...
Went out of town for 3 weeks and got someone to look after my plants. After coming back, about 20% of my collection is dead, and the rest is SO FRIGGIN DESSICATED that I am forced to repot every single plant I have. I'm talking total dryout, to where the peat is like sand again and can't get wet...
I am rather irked that I can't get my giant mystery nep to pitcher, but at least two others who have received cuttings HAVE had pitchers formed. One of my divisions IS starting to flower, but apparently one lousy pitcher is too much to expect from it!
The flower stalk is still forming, but...
I'm thinking of cutting down a couple of plants and was wondering if anybody was up to taking them in. They aren't anything very exciting-rather common as a matter of fact. This might be good for someone interested in trying cuttings for the first time.
One is a ventricosa or ventrata-not...
Hello, I have a nepenthes that was one of my first ones that I never really took great care of. It is even still in the original "junk" media. It was purchased from Homedepot so is one of those mystery hybrid things I guess. I don't know if the lack of lid is from horrid breading, or me never...
Well, so far I've had a lizard pop up, some crazy fungoids that we all figured were "gorgonian slime molds" (which have returned a couple times lasting only a day each time). Now about once a week I've been finding these things, I assumed them to be funguses also because they were on wood the...
I've got something that looks like scale, but I don't think it is.
It's small, white, flat, cottony-looking (but NOT fluffy), stationary, and oval/round. Found them growing where the ala meets the pitcher wall on one of my Heliamphora.
Can't find pics of it anywhere and I've been searching and...
This is a great story. I've seen these birds, and you eyes don't quite register what you're looking at. How a wild flock of parrots survives and grows in San Francisco is a total mystery. It's really cold here! These birds have lived through several hard freezes...
Just got the mystery dew today. The thing is HUGE. And you won't believe how green it is, even after being shipped. :0o: It was, and is, a thing of beauty. If it were up to me, everyone would have one. Maybe even a whole bunch of 'em. That is how truly awesome it is. I couldn't read the...
Droseraguy offered a free mystery dew with with one of his auctions so it gave me the idea to offer one up for bid.
I'll give hints to this mystery dew, but I will not give it's true ID until it is received by the winner. If you can ID this from the description then please don't post it and...
Something everyone should have ! At least 4 healthy and vigorous Drosera capensis. NOT responsible if you get more than 4 as they probably propogated in the box. Winner pays shipping and if it goes over $10 I'll throw in a mystery dew. You'll have to wait till you get it to find out the species...
Life is good in the nep room these days. We've had consistent cool, foggy weather, and in those conditions I can close up the grow room and get it to about 80 degrees. I open it up at night and it drops to 52 or so. Everyone seems to like it, so I went a bit nuts with the camera.
Here are some...
I finally bought one of the large N. mirandas that I've been eyeing (and secretly misting with fertilizer!) from a garden center. Nevermind that the moster mystery nep is probably a miranda as well.
Anyway, the leaves have a distinct red hue on them. I assume that this has something to due...
Ok, so if you've followed the thread in the ID This Plant forum http://www.terraforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=108031 you know that I have this enormous shrub of a nepenthes that has no pitchers. You may also know that I just found out that the nursery where I found it fertilized it with...
This is the same plant in the "pitcherless Nep" thread.
The leaves have a narrow base that then broadens to its full width. Most of my other neps immediately begin to broaden so I am able to eliminate N sanguinea, ventricosa, and bicalcarata. They do resemble my N raffelsiana however. The...
Why So Gloomy?
By Richard S. Lindzen
Newsweek International
April 16, 2007 issue - Judging from the media in recent months, the debate over global warming is now over. There has been a net warming of the earth over the last century and a half, and our greenhouse gas emissions are contributing...
