I picked up a pond liner at a yard sale and hope to start this weekend. I was wondering what soil mixes folks use in their bogs. I will likely use sand and wondered if there is a particular source that people prefer. I will try to take a pic and see if anybody has any ideas.
Looking for thoughts/opinions on calcined clay sold under the brand name Turface. I noticed it being sold on some orchid sites and Ebay, and read how some are using it as part of a their media for Neps and Helis. I was able to find a local distributor and picked up two 55lb bags this weekend for...
So I heard about using kelp fertilizer on my two bogs to get better results.. So I wanted to ask what popular brands are okay to use.. are all kelp fertilizers okay to use? The only place I have found that carries this is a local nursery called green thumb international and they have it in...

So I made the mistake of buying and useing this Hawathian Green Moss as a top layer for my CPs instead of LFS. Is this okay to use as a top layer? Does it benefit the plants in any way besides looking nice? Am going to buy LFS tommarow.. but am wondering if I can leave the large amount of green...

So one of my giant mini bogs is infested with very small black ants. I think I already lost my judith hindle and my 2 Sarracenia alata Sam Rayburn Resevoir, TX clones :(
I noticed they would be growing fine and then the growth would just flop over similar to if the plants were drying out...
I was wondering what peoples thoughts were on chicken manure with Sarracenias? I know it's supposed to be good for veggies and other fertilizable(made up word :)) plants. Not that I am purposely giving them chicken manure, I just can't be around every minute of the day to stop the chickens from...
So I'm going to visit wonderful europe for my honeymoon with my better half for 21 days this summer. Landing in Paris(4days), then up to the Netherlands(2), back down to Switzerland(4), Rome(3), Marseilles(2) and Barcelona(3). Sadly we won't be making a trip to the UK on this trip, but we'll...

I decided to experiment with my temperate CPs during dormancy this year. I dug a hole a little deeper than my 2 minibogs(they're around 1' tall, 1' wide 2' long) and placed them in. I figured that since the soil's temps are constant and usually warmer than freezing, and this might help stabilize...
Should I repot the three sarr.s I purchased just two weeks ago they were in man made bogs with rapid moving water they are all in what looks like 100% sand ? Not sure my conditions are going to be correct. My sarr.s are all in 50 50 peat pearlite and do great sitting in several inches...
Hi all,
The NECPS event with Stewart & Jeremiah Harris was a smash!
The weather cooperated nicely and we visted two local CP bogs.
Attendance was high, with over 60 members participating. Stewart signed and sold plenty of books and gave a remarkable presentation on newly described Nepenthes...
Hey everyone,
The NECPS was priviledged to be the benfactors of a book signing an presentation from Stewart McPherson this Sunday past!
He accompanied us around a couple of bogs in Massachusetts, then signed his books for us. Awesome.
There were actually TWO presentations - one about his...
Having been busy lately with a new job and moving I had little time to share my projects. Thankfully the plants all took to the moving well and are looking great! Here are some pics...

Hi everyone. How is everyone. Hi to all my old friends and Hello to the new people I have not had a chance to chat with yet. I'm still growing. Haven't lost much. A few things here and there have been neglected, but that happens when your splitting your time between two places and starting a...
Ugh.
I'm still losing some of my smaller Sarracenias due to rhizome rot/melt/fungus/something. This summer has been unbearably hot and dry. At the past advice of one of our veteran Sarracenia growers--Bugweed--I've started growing my plants in undrained plastic tubs. About 2 years ago, I...
