I thought I would post some pics of my bogs this spring. Most everything is in bloom now and pitchers are starting to opening. I didn't divide many plants this year as I wanted the bogs to look more full. I will post more pics once all of the pitchers are open.
Pings and D...
Has anyone here ever done mini speeches or talks or speeches on CPs? I did once last year for a project, I believe I did it on the ICPS, the conservation part about the ICPS, since the theme was for animal rights/protection and habitat destruction (and we all know CPs are suffering huge amounts...
My AP envionmental science class is taking a trip to Rabun County Georgia to go camping and see several endangered plant species. We are visiting Tallulah Gorge, which is in a protected state park. I heard somewhere several years ago (I forgot from where) that D.rotundifolia lives on the walls...
Hey guys I'm new to the forums and relatively new to CP's. I currently have two mini bogs created, but I am looking to make a terrarium for some neps. I am probably going to buy a 20 gallon tank that is 3 feet wide and like a foot or foot and a half tall...not sure on the exact dimensions...
Hey everyone my name is Zach and I am a freshman at Cal Poly Pomona in Southern California. I am studying Plant Science, and I recently bought some CP's, and now I'm hooked!! I created two different bogs...a large one and a small one, and I have them in different places because the plants in...
Hi everyone!
I have an opportunity for anyone on these forums who is interested to provide some feedback for a research paper I am writing on the environmental history of the peat bog, and a major part of that will be CPs. I hope that by interviewing those involved in CPs and bogs, I can...

It's common name is Orange Milkwort and it grows in bogs all along the east coast. In this thread I got an ID on it and it's since put out 4 large flower heads and so far, around 50 seeds. Here is what the plant look like. If you want some seeds, just PM me with an address and I'll mail...
A few months ago I took a container bog class at the Atlanta Botanical Garden - namely because for a $30 class you get to around $60 worth of plants to take home.
Anyway, I asked the instructor about fungicide treatment for container bogs - which mine tend to be prone too this time of year as...

Dishing the Dirt on CP soils
There is a lot of controversy over just which soils are best for certain types of CP's. Some growers prefer perlite, some prefer sphagnum, some plants just really don't seem to care, so exactly what is it that makes a type of soil good for CP's?
Read on and...

I dont know if the university connection is allowing me to see the full article or if it is always like that, so just in case here is the thing below.
I have quite a few bales of pine needles left over from mulching the garden and landscape plants over the summer. I know that in a lot of south Georgia bogs, as well as places in New Jersey etc., pines are the dominant trees and their dropped leaves often help acidify the soil and make for a...
Today I was preening my patio bogs when I noticed several very odd things. First, I noticed that my S. leucophylla, which has never flowered in the 5 years I've had it, has a flower growing now - at the end of September!
I also noticed that there are seedling sundews and VFTs growing all over...
Hello,
My name is Kevin Peterson, I used to do alot of the whole cp thing back a few years ago, made mini bogs and stuff like that... moved, and totally forgot about it. Well, couple years have passed and have rediscovered the whole hobby, and am back?! lol, anyways, for those of you who...
I’ve been growing pitcher plants successfully outside in container bogs for several years now. This spring as my bogs came out of dormancy I started to notice dozens of little sundews growing – most likely from seeds that arrived via a new pitcher plant addition. I was excited at the prospect...
Went to the annual New England Carnivorous Plant Society BBQ hosted by Black Jungle this past weekend.
Started off at their store, went to the Hawley Bog, then to a secret roadside bog and then to the BBQ at the Black Jungle Greenhouses.
A fun-filled, CP-filled kinda day.
There was a brief...
I am looking for some Calopogon tuberosus otherwise known as Grass Pink, a native orchid found commonly in bogs that have the same growing conditions for Sarrs. I'd like to add some to my bog garden.
I have some mexi ping hybrids including 'Titan', some utrics (livida, what I *think* is...
If your Venus Flytrap is flowering and you are unsure about what to do, read below:
In the spring, a flower stalk will grow straight up in the middle of the plant on a round stem. The young tip will look a bit like a closed fist. It will continue to grow and form buds. These buds will open...
