he has about 5 plants. if each leaf has 5 leaves, and he cut off 3 leaves on each plant, that would be 15. then after each leaf has healthy plants growing, he could take off 3 leaves off each of the 15 plants, thats 45. then 3 off each of the 45 plants, that's 135! then 3 off of every of the 135 plants, that's 405!+5+15+45+135=605!
