Hello everyone! I'm new here.
About a couple of weeks ago, My Nepenthes pitchers (owned since March 2021) started manifesting these spots. I have been leaving them on my porch (full sun) with no prior issues. They've been catching plenty of insects (I live in Missouri, so the humidity + insect...

I found this poor guy (or gal) in a dark, forgotten spot in a shop. I asked the workers how long it's been in there, and they said it's been for about two months!
This plant is in great shape for the time it spent forgotten from humanity (I suspect the only thing they did for it was...
Friends, my germination I do in sphagnum substrate. This generates a lot of cyanobacteria (gelatinous above), I reside in high humidity location.
What is the common substrate q you use for germination, with good results in germination and fewer problems? ???
Hi everyone!
I'm from the Northern Lower Peninsula of Michigan, been growing CPs for about 1 year now and totally addicted.
I've been reading a lot online & in books. I've been primarily active on the reddit page r/SavageGarden learning, sharing pictures, and making some exchanges. I'm trying...
Recently some of my sphagnum moss has started turning bright purple blue and violet. Anyone else have moss like this? I grow under a combo of LEDs and T5 perhaps its a result of that. however this setup is almost 2 years old now and this is the first time I've seen this moss.
Short list so far:
Growing above ground -
Nepenthes x Miranda
Nepenthes x Suki
Nepenthes Lowe's (BBP, labeled ventrata, 9/2017)
Drosera:
D. Binata x Marston Dragon
D. Binata x Marston Dragon (red)
D. Binata x Multifida Extrema
D. Capensis alba
D. Capensis
D. Capensis giant (under testing)...
Today I potted up a baby VFT "Akai Ryu".
I bought the parent plant from FlyTrapShop.com. It arrived on May 3rd. It started to send up a flower scape soon after it arrived. I cut the scape and tossed it in some live sphagnum on May 28th. On July 23rd, I saw several growth buds appear. Today it...
I got my first nepenthes, a reinwardtiana (highland red) around July 4th:
I filled the pitchers with a few drops of distilled water. The brown spots and the small yellow leaf concerned me so I sent an email to the seller, but never got a reply. I also found a single scale on a fallen leaf...
Hello everyone.
After looking online for quite a while, I found some growers tried using coconut husk chips along with sphagnum moss as a media for Droseras, but never found any results. Well, here I am to say what are MY results using a soil composed of 4/10 coco chips, and 6/10 long fiber...
one of my young Nepenthes miranda hybrid got the yellow spots on the leaves recently. Other plants next to it is growing normal without yellow spots. I wonder what wrong with this little guy. I grow it outside under double-layer 40% shade cloth in Houston. The medium is LFS + perlite with some...
Deflasking Drosera hartmeyerorum, A followup
Two weeks ago I posted about removing Drosera hartmeyerorum from a Tissue Culture flask and potting it up into some live Sphagnum on top of a standard Drosera Peat/Sand mix.
Anyway here is a followup report. It was an unmitigated egregious failure...
I went to a few 'plants general items' stores looking for sphagnum moss.
I ended up finding a few nepenthes and 2 VFT. The VFT were in terrible shape, I also never had one so I didnt want to try it out.
The nepenthes were in overall great shape, but I just have no idea about the species, so...
Does anyone know if you can resurrect sphagnum moss? I put some dead sphagnum in a container on top of some peat moss and closed it and put it in the shade outside.
Hi, I was looking at the spaghnum moss of my venus fly trap, and I noticed that there were these tiny bugs crawling around in it that were no bigger than the head of a pin. They were too small to be able to take a picture of, so I tried to draw a picture of what they looked like. Can anyone ID...
Yesterday four of us piled in a car and headed out of Portland up to Mount St. Helens to go see wild carnivores. We spotted Drosera rotundifolia and also Utricularia that we haven't figured out yet which species it is. The Drosera was growing on Sphagnum moss, we think Sphagnum squarrosum...
Deflasking Tissue Cultured Drosera hartmeyerorum
I ordered a Drosera hartmeyerorum plant. It came in a Tissue Culture flask. This is how I deflasked it and introduced it to the real world. This is only my second attempt at transferring a TC Drosera into a pot and regular growing conditions. If...

This is one of the new kids on the block. I used to look after a few hundred Limax. They enjoyed a nightly feed of birdseed, wholemeal bread and grated cheese (It was actually being put out for the birds but the Limax are opportunists). The last couple of years there has been an influx of Arion...
