Hey all, I have a number of questions that I would like to be answered, and I have been saving them all up untill now. Just for you ;). I thought I wouldn't waste forum space with about 10 questions in a period of, like, a week. :P
Anyway, 5 problems/identifications!
1) My Nepenthes x Ventrata...
Those of you who have been interested in trying your hands at raising some pet mantids the easiest to start with are the common types are considered naturalized and are allowed to be released in the garden as pest control. You can hatch one or more of these kinds of egg cases and save a couple...
..or it really is in fact dying, time will tell. It was doing great, and has been for a couple years. Then it made a pitcher that was 1/4 the size of the previous. Then it threw out a couple very tiny leaves, about 1/4 the size of the previous leaves, all of which didn't pitcher. Now, it has...
As we all know mosses and other invaders take over a utric pot pretty fast and I have been wondering if anyone has ever grown any utrics purely in Shultz APS (Aquatic Plant Soil) or similar non organic material?
I recently bought an expensive version of APS by Pond Care/Aquarium...
My neps have been followed by slugs and earwigs for the past few months. No matter where I moved them, the slugs got to them. They ate holes in the leaves and pitchers, and killed basals from underneath the ground up. Last night I found a small space underneath the window in the grow room where...

Some of the photos were replaced if not the best quality.
Indiscriminately dousing plants with harsh insecticides whenever a bug is seen near your plants will also kill many of the these bugs. Neem is good to use. The bug...
I got some tiny bugs on my new neps, they're about 0,1 to 0,25 mm.
I haven't seen a lot of them, maybe 2 or 3 total, and small threads gowing from the growing tips to other parts of the plants.
The plant in the picture is the talangensis in my picture thread.
Does anyone know what they are ?
I see some pest activity on some plants that really need to be repotted anyways.
I thought about unpotting, and then spraying with the roots just wrapped with some lfs in a baggie before repotting.
Has anybody ever tried this before?
Joe
So, I just saw aphids on my sarracenia, and I was just wondering whether or not this insecticide would be okay. My dad said that it'll work, not just on fruits and vegetables, so lets just hope. I'm just asking about your experience with this (if any) and whether in your opinion will it work or...
Need someone to identify what these could be. I had thought originally for them to be signs of a pest, but upon just reading a newly posted thread I'm thinking different. Could someone point me in the right direction :
For me, this year has already proved to be the most difficult in regard to the number of pests I've had to deal with. I don't know if it's the rain we're getting here in Northern California, but for some reason I'm just inundated with problems. I haven't been growing Sarrs for too long, only...
Hey everyone,
The first two pitchers thrown up by my Sarracenia Rubra are spotted and a bit deformed. I've never seen this before on any of my Sarrs. What do you think? Here are some photos I took this morning. I hope you can see. I was thinking some bug decided to make a snack while my...
I built a shade house about 16-18 months ago:
About six months ago I started to notice white spots on my plants. I feared the worst and thought I had some type of pest, but closer inspection revealed that it was small pieces of the shade cloth. Unfortunately, it has begun to deteriorate...
Hi Guys,
My N. Ampullaria leaves are showing brown/red spots which seem to expand over time - see pics below (top and bottom of leaves). Whatever caused these spots didn't halt growth of the pitcher on the largest leaf. Now the newest leaf is showing some spots as well (easier to see at the...
Hello, well after finding out i had a pest on my nepenthes in a trade felt i should take some action and ask the forum if anyone could identify the pest and how i can treat it.
the nepenthes was inside a propagation tank along with tons of cuttings that were rooting, and tons of germinating...
OK. Lay it on the line. What are options for insecticides when it comes to cp's? I sometimes just stare at my plants like i'm watching them grow (who doesn't right) and its not uncommon for me to find a few aphids on my capensis so I'll pick em off with tweezers. but today I was staring and the...
A few weeks ago I noticed some very tiny bugs among one of my U. warburgii. Armed with a loupe & Google, it appears that they were the smallest aphids I've ever seen. Since I've heard that utrics are like dews in their sensitivity to pesticides, I planned on my 1st use of the relatively new (at...
Do any of you entomologists know what this pest that is bugging my next door neighbors common plants?
In Maine, eating common flowers, 7 doesn't seem to work.
thanks,
