I'm offering a single specimen of this eastern US native orchid. Plant is currently in a 4" round plastic nursery pot, but for shipping purposes it will be removed. I will send it bare root or with the loose media at the winner's discretion. Although it's flowers aren't very showy, the dark...
Hi TF - I've got some seed of a few South American Drosera. I've never grow this group before, but plan on doing so in my highland room. Generally their culture seems straight forward and I'm not super concerned about their germination - except...
I've read some strong preferences for media...
What's your favorite soil mix for Pinguiculas?
I grow mostly Mexican Pings and wondering what soil mix do you use?
Here are a few I have written down. I've been using #2 but want to try some other mixes.
1: 3 Parts Sand and 1 Part Peat
2: 1 Part Sand, 1 Part Perlite, 1 Part Peat
3: 1 Part...
I put this together a while back more as an experiment with propagating mosses than anything planned. I wasn't even sure if the method would work all that well. Basically, I just threw some clumps of about three different mosses into a food-processor with about an ounce of water and a dash of...
The NECPS and Tower Hill Botanic Garden are jointly planning to promote our 13th Annual Carnivorous Plant Show on September 10 & 11 next year. We are searching for a high resolution cp image that will be used for our huge posters, plentiful post cards and other media promoting the show.
We are...
A friend of mine told me baking the media will prevent algae growth and those weird pests in the soil.
What temperature should I put it in the oven? How long?
Thanks :D
Right now i have some seedlings that are very small, germination started a few days ago, only i planted them in a very peaty mix and now i think that was a mistake
i want to seperate them out into a more rocky/sandy mix while they are still young to minimize the transplant shock
here's the mix...
Hi all, I'm looking to start a small African tank for Utricularia reflexa ( http://www.cpphotofinder.com/utricul...flexa-733.html ), a free floating African species. In the wild, this plant grows in shallow water among grasses, sedges and other emergent aquatics. My biggest question here is...
Thus far I've found myself unable to keep even the easiest Nepenthes for any period of time. Thanks to a discovery during a clean out and the generosity of Ryan from Native Exotics I find myself in the position of being able to try to kill one in a different way.
The essence of...
A few months ago, when my bicalc outgrew the small terrarium, I set it up in one that was larger, but had less ventilation. I made the mistake of setting the pot in the water, and proceeded to neglect my poor nep for several months:nono:. (I also made the mistake of setting the terrarium up in a...
I have some Pings planted in API Aquatic Plant Media.
Does this media wick water UP to the plant or do I still need to top water?
I tried to feel the top layer BUT can't tell if it's wet or my imagination!
Here's one of the plants:
ANY other advice in using this media for Pings?
Thank you so...
Alright, so I am now the owner of one tuber each of D. menziesii and D. modesta (because Johnny is awesome!!!) that I have no idea how to properly care for, so the past few days have been spent heavily researching how to keep them alive. I was told that now is the prime time to start these guys...
So, I have a D. multifida 'extrema' plant that has never flowered for me. It's already survived one winter under lights, but I'm getting nervous only having one, so I want to start at least one cutting in a terrarium as a backup.
I'm curious as to the best way to do this. I know a few people...
Hi all,
How does one top dress pots with live sphagnum moss? Every time I try to do it, the heads just shrivel up even though the media is moist. Thanks.
I've done some reading about these guys, and they seem to like temps between 60-65 at night and 75-85 during the day, with high humidity, indirect light, decent airflow, and are best grown mounted, but well drained media like live sphagnum works too, right? Assuming the rest of this is correct...
Just spent the strangest hour and a half. I trimmed and re-potted plants that were neither orchids or carnivorous. I mean my hands were touching actual potting soil, not "media" or sphagnum. It, it, it just didn't feel normal. What's worse, now I don't know where to put them come cold weather...
I have some Cephalotus seeds that will be coming soon, and would like to ask for a clear and concise guide for growing them from seed. I have read the ICPS growing guide, and I think that will do the trick, but if anyone has any other "magic" tips for me in regard to stratification time, media...
Just got back from my vacation in Yellowstone to a wonderful surprise:
This was from a lot of around 50 seeds I got from the giveaway hosted by DragonsEye last month (thanks a ton!). So far, I've counted around 25 sprouts, with 3 on milled Sphagnum that I was too lazy to take a picture of...
Succulent package
This package contains:
1 Echeveria Black Prince cutting
Good-sized/mature cutting. Would not be unreasonable to expect them to bloom this winter/spring. Full sun is necessary for best coloration.
10 Echeveria runyonii Topsy Turvy cuttings
Smallish cuttings which I would...
Has anyone had luck growing SA drosera in a peat based media? I purchased D. graomogolensis potted in 50/50 peat/perlite. Wondering if this is adequate for now. My conditions are reasonably cool. That area of the grows pace is probably high 70s during the day and cooler at night.
