Sterilizing peat moss/perlite

A friend of mine told me baking the media will prevent algae growth and those weird pests in the soil.

What temperature should I put it in the oven? How long?

Thanks :D

Microwave. 4-6" pots, 5 mins. BAM. Heats wayyy more evenly than an oven. The media must be wet for the microwave to work.

Well.... my microwave got wrecked the last time I used it to sterilize my media. And I haven't got it repaired, so I can only stick to oven for now :(.

Keep an eye out for craigslist and yard sales. Usually they'll got for like $5. I doubled up on really crappy ones, stick em in the greenhouse, and sterilize twice as fast as if I had one.
