Many years ago I had stopped at an Orchid Nursery in the vicinity of San Diego, California. While there I purchased a sibling cross produced seedling of Cattleya harrisoniana -- They were in 2 inch pots and staged together on a greenhouse bench. One of the parents was reported to be tetraploid...
I know that the majority of the worlds epiphytes come from higher elevations in the "Mossy Forests" or "Coud Jungles". Is this true with Nepenthes as well? All the Neps that I have found described as epiphytic are highland. Are there any lowland epiphytic Neps?

I've had some Utricularia longifolia for close to a year now. It has never had a whole lot growth. I was looking around the net and read that Utricularia longifolia grows as an epiphytic. The soil mix should be LFS, orchid bark, perlite, and a touch of peat moss. Too much peat moss will stunt...

Every time the topic of epiphytic species comes up, the knee jerk response is to say that they are difficult to grow and unsuitable for beginners. Is this really true? I would like to hear from people who have had trouble growing these plants.
With the exception of U. quelchii, which has only...

Hi,

Greetings all,
I had a bright ideal and would like to know if anyone thinks it would work.
I thought that it would be possible to simulate the natural conditions that many epiphytic utrics grow in by constructing a tube of chicken wire and filling it with orchid bark and LFS. The tube would...
