    Terminology, definitions, and conditions

I understand terrestrial and have a pretty good idea what todo with them. But what is the difference between that and epiphytic and how are they different in cultivation? Also, what does orchidoides mean? I read the terms on the forums and in the Pietropaolo book, but there is no denotation.

    Dragonfruit Cactus

I have just got two self fruiting cultivars of this orchid cactus which create enormous night opening flowers up to 16" in diameter and create large red spike covered edible fruits (in time - mine are about 10" long only). Is there anyone else here growing these? Since they are epiphytic from...

    mounted I think it's alive!

I don't know how familiar you folks are with using slabs of cork bark to mount and grow epiphytic plants but it's often covered in all sorts of neat lichens and stuff, usually long dead.  But I just got a few large slabs from a new shipment at the orchid shop (so new I was digging out of the...

    Nepenthes hamata

Hello fellow CPers. My Nepenthes hamata suffered a week-long drought over the summer last year. This caused the leaves to grow smaller, yet as strong as the previous ones. It's growth of rate wasn't as impressive as when I had first received it, and the pitchers' size had obviously been greatly...

    Moss intertwined with terrestrial utrics

Last year a bunch of us received pinches / plugs of epiphytic Utrics. I'll go out on a limb, here, and say that we all had moss intertwined with them. I didn't know what they all did, but I lived with it. Recently, a friend asked me how to get rid of the moss. I really don't have a foolproof...

    Which utrics are epiphytes?

i am curious as to what species are epiphytic in nature. im growing U. nephrophylla, U. asplundii, and U. reniformis as what would consider epiphytes. a layer of LFS over a layer of quick draining medium(orchid bark and perlite). basically simulates a layer of moss growing on a tree branch i...
