I've moved a lot in the last few years, and while I was unable to keep my plants, some books and things have made the move. At this point, I'm ready to start a small collection again, and am willing to trade my books for your extra plants or seeds. I'm easy to please: even the most common...
While looking up information for the cultivation I have found that there are very few guides to growing N. villosa, so I thought I would write up a basic guide to its cultivation from the information I have found and my limited experience (two months) with the plant.
Nepenthes villosa or the...
I saw some red sphagnum at my nep nursery a month or two back and asked if I could buy some, and since they don't officially grow it and just happened to have a bit, they gave me a rather large chunk of red sphagnum. Went home with that and my new Nepenthes and put it around the...
Thought I'd start a new thread since I just got a bunch of new Nepenthes with a veitchi k on the way and a veitchi candy striped not too far behind.
Heres some pics of the HL chamber with its new fogger which hopefully won't die... as you can see its gotten pretty jam packed so if anyone knows...
After expanding my grow area into a rack, I started to look to other plants besides just CPs. After a while I gave my CPs away to a local grower just like I said I would and decided to grow other exotics or lesser known plants like Robusta coffee and black cherry tomatoes. I started a youtube...

I got this plant 4-6 months ago and it has not done much of anything for me. It looks very much like it did when I first received the plant; it has put out a few leaves but has not even thought about inflating a pitcher.
Conditions: Grown in a basement with a variety of Neps and Heliamphora...
There was an article on a political blog this morning, describing a study at Cornell, which suggested that our democracy -- our republic anyway -- was in danger because the vox populi was too stupid to recognize what was good for them. My favorite quote was an Orwellian (maybe Huxleyian) riff by...
Hello again!
I was at a neighbors house having coffee and jawing and I had mentioned in the past that I wanted a plant they had planned to dig up and get rid of as the top had died. A grapefruit tree grafted to trifoliate orange...long story short it was agreed that I could dig it up and take...
I have heard a lot of good about using coffee to give Nepenthes a boost. I am curious if (used, no creamer) tea leaves scattered about the surface, or even mixed into the soil mix, would have a similar effect on the bog-ish plants; Sarracenia, Dionaea, Drosera, Pinguicula. The leaves are acid...
Sarracenia:
S. Purpurea ssp. venosa
S. Rubra ssp. rubra x2
S. leucophylla X (S. oreophila X S. minor) (in cold stratification)
Drosera:
D. Capensis
D. Capensis "alba"
D. Spatulata x6
D. Binata x2
D. Binata "multifida"
D. Adalae x3
D. Roseana
D. Burmanii (germinating)
D. Intermedia "cuba"...
I'm just wondering if i can use coffee grounds (the soil-like things that you get from grinding coffee beans) as medium for my Nepenthes plants? I read a lot of testimonials about the wonders of coffee (drink) as fertilizers for Neps but I've never read of using the grounds as medium. What say...

This was originally written for my friend whose interest is piqued in Carnivorous Plants. I've worked very hard on this, but I don't doubt that perhaps I've forgotten anything meaningful or gotten something wrong. Please correct, or add other...
So on the advice of a wonderful forum member, I check out the local salvation army today. I walked out with an extension cord, an old coffee maker to cannibalize a cord ffor my new light fixture, and a NEW ReliOn ultrasonic humidifier. Grand total? $2.75
Now the real questions:
Can I just use...

Would instant coffee be Ok to use on neps? I did not realise you were supposed to use the coffee beans brewed type, and so I put some instant coffee on some of my that needed a boost.
Will this still help them or should I not have used instant coffee.
I've found an old metal can of folgers unopened in the top of shelf of our cupboard above the stove. It had a good layer of dust on the top of it, who knows how old it is.
Here is a picture I found on the web, same stuff I found in the cupboard.
I am wondering if this stuff is instant coffee...
I don't think I've ever seen this issue brought up in a post...
Does it matter what kind of coffee you use???
As in Brewed Vs. Instant???
Does it have to be Brewed Or Will Instant Work???
I'm a big coffee drinker at the office, but for what ever reason I never make coffee at home...
I don't...
