    Starting a mini-bog this winter

This winter, I plan to start a minibog. However, it's going to be themed as if it's a south-east American wet field. In simpler terms, it'll only be plants found in south-east America (Venus Fly Traps, Thread-leaf sundews, Sarracenia, Butterworts, etc). Quick question: How do I prevent soil...

Do you prefer variety or theme minibogs?

Which type of bog/minibog do you prefer: Theme bogs with just one species or genus of plants (All Venus Flytraps/All Pitcher Plants/or all Sundews), or variety bogs with many different varities? I'm asking this because I'm going to be drastically changing my minibog this winter (new and larger...

    Setting up a Grow Rack

Yesterday my Grandad had this great idea - get me a terrium, or more factually - make one. So we went down to Mitre 10 (local hardware store in NZ) and what do you know, they were advertising grow racks (or mini-greenhouses, as they called them), and Grandad was like, 'lets get one of those...

    Plague?

In all my years of growing CP I've never experienced this. Most of my Sundews, Butterworts, and Flytraps have turned black and died. Actually, the Flytraps have died back to the bulb. They aren't dead. What is so startling about this phenomenon is that the all of these plants were growing...

Looking for a Mexican butterwort to grow under my lamp

So, I'm in the market for a butterwort. I'm leaving for my college dorm in August, and I would like a butterwort to grow under my lamp (my N. Ventricosa is growing extremely well under it). However, my Nepenthes is getting too big, so I would like a nice butterwort, perferably Mexican. Any...

    Shipping P. gysicola

No matter what I do, this species of Mexican butterworts has to be th most frustrating to ship, being slightly worse than P. jaumviensis. I've tried dried peat and dried LFS. I just can't plants from point A to point B without fatalities. A friend suggested shipping leaves. I think I'll try...

    Lowe's rescue - too late?

I grabbed these from Lowe's today. I'm pretty sure they're Pinguicula primuliflora. The largest one may have a chance; the medium-sized one has stubs for roots and will probably die. The tiny cluster was a "bonus" in the package. I haven't grown butterworts yet, but I followed what the Savage...

    U. calcyfida leaves looking burnt

Out of all my plants on the rack, including sundews, butterworts, and bladderworts, I have 2 containers of U. calcyfida whose leaves are looking burnt along the edges. I can't think of a reason why this species alone is reacting. Any ideas?

After a few studies with food for CPs as well as lighting

Many people say you need multiple fluorescent lights to grow CPs, i only have a small set in my room, i grow them at our pet store too. I have found out, that for a small set up, you can use the Repti-Glo 5.0+ Full spectrum lights, i use one and i have healthy plants. My typical VFT is a bit...

    Your first carnivorous plant.

I love making these topics, and, for some reason, they are popular. Indeed, I'll probably get as much posts as I did on CPUK by doing this! What was your first plant? I ordered VFT Seeds before a Pinguicula primuliflora, but, the primuliflora arrived first. I was doing a science project on...
