I gave a 10 minute presentation on cps

For my Core Biology class I had to give a 10 minute presentation on a scientific journal article of my choice. The article had to somehow pertain to what we've learned so far, so seeing as we've been learning all about photosynthesis (down to the last sickeningly microscopic detail-Ugh!) I...

    Good idea?

would it be a good idea to pot a N.x Manny herrera with a ventricosa allong with mexican butterworts, drosera capensis, drosera adelae, all in a 12 inch pot? this would end up looking like a large houseplant planted with folige plants.

    Smaller pots for cps

Between my purchases during the auction and the ASTOUNDING generosity of several members of these forums, my collection of CPs has grown quickly. I'm wondering if, in a effort to save space, if it is appropriate to use smaller pots than the standard 3 1/4 inch square - 3 inch tall pots I've been...

    Horticulturist's growlist

This is my growlist. It is quite pathetic right now...I had a mass dyeout when I went to Boston for a week. We turned the AC off to save money, and everything got FRIED!! You see my terrarium is upstairs in my room, and heat tends to rise. Texas summers can get pretty toasty too, so I lost...

    Carnivorous plant newsletter vol 22 # 1&2

Looking through some old issues of CPN found some duplicates. This issue is from March & June of 1993 (double issue). Articles on: - Lots of letters to the editors - Some observations on the trapping mechanisms of Nepenthes Inermis & N. Rhombicaulis (Bruce Salmon) - Color variation of S...

How did you get hooked on cps?

I was a real bookworm when I was a kid (and still am). I would read about things in books, and then I would be utterly fascinated when I encountered the subject in real life. I remember reading about slugs when I was in 1st grade, and thought it was curious that a snail wouldn't have a shell...

    A visit to uc davis

Promised Barry I would write this down, so here it is! I visited the UC Davis greenhouses on the 18th of July, the day after my birthday. Terrarium lighting

Hello, Quite literally, I read all the topics on lighting and am more confused now than before! There seems to be a great deal of debate on watts vs. lumens vs. lux, etc..... However, I wasn't able to find a simple answer to a very important question: What is the best lighting (in terms of...

    Terrarium / plant help!

Hello, I've got three CPs already (two Neps and one american pitcher plant), but I want to grow more and increase the variety. Unfortunately, I don't have the windowsill space, so I want to grow them in a terrarium. First, can you grow neps, american pitcher plants, sundews, butterworts, and...

    Butterworts in full sun?

Does anyone grow any type of buttwort in direct full sun? I tried a Pinguicula primuliflora last year. I might not have allowed it to adjust long enough to the sun before placing it in direct sunlight all day. A lot of the leaves started to brown and dry. Since then I have never tried any others.

    New member--nepenthes questions

Hello all, I am new to this forum, and I'm really impressed by the volume of information amassed by this group. I recently (2mo ago) bought two Nepenthes (gracilis & coccinea) and I have a few questions about them. They are doing ok for now, and coccinea is even producing new pitchers (but...
