Many people say you need multiple fluorescent lights to grow CPs, i only have a small set in my room, i grow them at our pet store too.
I have found out, that for a small set up, you can use the Repti-Glo 5.0+ Full spectrum lights, i use one and i have healthy plants. My typical VFT is a bit etoliated, i am aware, but its about 5 plants when i split and rather new plant from Top Foods ( i saw the little thing growing all stragly inside and said "Oh darn, cant let it die that way" and now its healthy, and a great little plant
The lighting proves to work becauase 1. i had 2 nearly dead Akai Ryu that came to me in the mail, both were nearly unpotted, but the moment i repotted them inside the tank, turned on the light and gave them about 12 hours of light per day, they are getting color and showing new leaves.
My dentate is growing incredibly LARGE traps, one of them measuring 1 1/2 inches.
And i have an S. Judith Hindle, all growing under the one spiral bulb.
They say dont use Phoenix Worms, i have found out that the extra small ones, arent bad for them because they dont have near as much calcium.
infact, they are one reason my dentate is growing so well. though they tend to try and squirm out of the traps :p
i have the light set back in a position pointing down at an angle from the terrarium that i made from a little aquarium that i bought for a cheap price, all together with the lighting it was about 50 dollars. really cheap
i also have a plant setting down next to our Aero Garden which has more lighting than this, and it is growing at the same pace and same coloration as these plants. Pitcher plants dont seem to mind them either!
i grow about 4 racks of sundews, cobra lilys, butterworts, sarracenia, and many others at the pet store i work for, all under UV Black lights, and honestly, the plants are growing just fine, i will take a picture next time i am there.
I dont see why so many people are failing with lighting, i am 16, yes. i grow plants just fine with one bulb.
i mist the sides of the tank a couple of times a day, and voila, a perfect little steamy invironment for my plants.
my set up is this
2 1/2 gallon aquarium half full with sphag. peat moss/perlite
Exo-Terra compact fluorescent terrarium canopy
Exo-Terra Repti-glo 5.0 Full Spectrum light(26 Watts! and it works for a small terrarium like mine!)
and a little tape to hold the lid back at the angle.
i might add a bottom heating unit or something later on, but for now this is working just fine.
