saved some chrysalises from certain doom

One's good and ready...the other had to get plucked down in pre-chrysalis form because he's stil got to work on making himself all hard and green..

Monarchs would be my guess, although there's a species of caterpillar/butterfly that closely resembles them.
 
updates: they're coming out any day now, this is the bigger and further along of the two (I've moved them outside so they have more room) --

The poor little guy looked bad and ended up just turning on the bottom of the container and I hung it up with some string - shed its skin and got some perlite embedded in the chrysalis "shell", but I think it'll come out OK :-D
 
I don't mean to worry you, but yearly I raise about 80 Monarchs, and whenever my Chrysalis turns pearl color they end up dying... It mainly is green then clear(orange and black)
 
...just then one of Larry's ghost mantids creeps over and snatches it up! :D




Very nice we have milkweeds everywhere here and lots of Monarchs.
