Nepenthesis

Formerly known as Pineapple
I want to get some drosera to put in my greenhouse sphagnum cultures. The greenhouse is 50-60F at night and 70-85F during the day depending on the season. So I'll probably want something tropical or close to it because I don't want to deal with dormancy and I don't want to dig up tubers/bulbs/whatever every growing season... Is there anything that will fit those standards? The CP shop I go to has every drosera, sarracenia and other CPs known to man, or so it looks. If you give me the name of one that fits my needs, I'll be sure to find it. Oh, and I want something RED or ORANGE or YELLOW. No green. I really like those red ones with big fat, flat leaves that grow as rosettes.

Also, if I were to order those 50 seed packs on eBay... How long does it take for them to germinate? Can I just chuck them into my sphag cultures and wait? How long does it take to get one from seed to 2-3"? Are most seeds viable? Anything else I should know about germinating TROPICAL (or non-dormancy-requiring) drosera?

The three species that will THRIVE in high humidity conditions and on sphagnum are adelae, schizandra, and prolifera.

If you want RED, ORANGE or YELLOW, I recommend you purchase some peat and sand, as most species will not do well in sphagnum long term, at least not in the soaking wet conditions of a sphagnum culture.

Another thought: I grow Pinguicula primuliflora in my wet sphagnum cultures. That's where I find the species grows best for me, actually. I know you were asking for suggestions for Drosera, but primuliflora does great in those conditions.

Here's an old pic. They have filled in much more now. I also stick random Drosera cuttings, etc in the sphag culture, and do have one D. adelae that is doing well there now.

If I get a seed pack on eBay, how many seeds should I get to get? Is 50-100 a good number to shoot for? What is the typical germination rate?
