Doomsday's Pictures and Videos

What happened to your Wacky Traps and how did you treat it?

Yes, but how exactly did he treat it with peroxide?

I'm not exactly sure why it started to lose all of its leaves, including the new ones it had started producing, and my other flytraps from the same batch of soil were doing fine, so I figured it must be some kind of rot/mite/etc. that was only hurting that one plant. I uprooted it, rinsed it under running water until it was clean of any media, cut off all the traps, since they were all dying, and then sprayed it thoroughly (dripping wet) with diluted h2o2 (I don't remember the exact strength, but I think it was close to 3 tbsp per cup or something like that, maybe a bit stronger. I just make sure I hear fizzing and see bubbling when it's sprayed on algae. Then I repotted it in peat/perlite that I had microwaved two times for 90 seconds each time.

Some neat stuff in this thread! Love the time lapses.
Did your sphagnum end up growing over the algae or no? Wondering if h2o2 is safe on sphagnum... I'm guessing not, though.

Let the tissue culture begin!
Hell yea, man! BTW, do you have a D. burmannii "Humpty Doo"?

Thanks! I'm working on a new timelapse, right now, actually. Not sure how good it will be since the camera was bumped a few times, but I think there should be some action. It'll probably be done within a day or two.

As for the sphagnum.....it didn't. While sphagum can recover from dilute H2O2 applications as long as the inner stem isn't killed (my experience), it didn't seem to be a very effective treatment for algae in the spahgnum cultures. On other plants and media, it works really well to wipe out algae and fungi, but I have yet to remove algae from a living sphagnum culture, and have it stay away afterwards. I'd say your best bet is to just trim the live clean heads, thoroughly rinse them anyway, and then use them to start a new culture.

Looking forward to it, then! One of my pings is sending up a flowerbud right now, and I was like dangnabbit, if I'd only thought of doing time lapses like Doom... Haha.

It’s too bad the H2O2 treatment doesn't rid sphagnum of algae. Does the spaghnum still turn yellow with dilute applications of it though? I dealt with aphids by way of neem solution, and while it worked that did bleach my sphagnum blonde in places.

Thanks, and haha. You still can time lapse the blooming or the pings leaves growing.

The H2O2 spray will lighten the moss a bit but until a certain concentration it won't turn it white.

D. adelae - The main plants died, but the roots are sprouting babies. Never throw away CP pots for a couple of months, at least.
