Not too good a winter so far with a mix of young and old Heli collapsing quickly over night. Lost my two H. purpurascens, a younger H. exappendiculata went today. And a couple of H. hispida & H. pulchella a week or so back. With more to follow I expect!
Typical symtoms are of pitcher growth...

Earlier this year when I was living in Mississippi I posted about my pitcher plants not thriving like they should have been, and eventually I figured out the cause... It was because the soil I used had waaaaaaay to much LFS in it (I think I used LFS, peat, and sand in a 1:1:1 ratio), and over...
I'll be moving into an apartment and setting up a small-ish Nepenthes grow chamber in the next couple months. I will be in a cold climate, so indoor conditions (factoring in heat from lights/ greenhouse effect from growth chamber) should be intermediate. I am shooting for day temps of 80-85...

A while back I planted some nep seeds, I believe regular x black lip I was told. The pics are not too good as my camera does not do macro well, but what say??
This one is a bit better. If so, this would be my first success so far in sprouting.
Anybody know what this is?
On this ceph...
I thought I was going to receive some dormant rhizomes with no pitchers, but I guess these aren't dormant... ???
I made sure the medium was just moist, not wet, when I potted them. I put maybe a few tablespoons of distilled water right around the rhizome. These are in drained pots that dry...

I have 1 minor hybrid(I think noid is the proper term) that started to do poorly. I was a decent sized rhizome but the pitchers started dropping. I pulled it and after inspection that one side of the rhizome is squishy and rust colored..... but only half of it. After some research it seems it...

Though I'm obviously not planning any dividing until much later this year, I'm looking ahead and anticipating. One problem I forsee is this: several of my plants are pretty impressive in size. I have a Sarracenia x catesbaei, for example, that is specimen-sized. As I look at the base of the...
I remember Peter D'Amato writing an article(s) about CP torture years ago in the Carnivorous Plant Newsletter, trying to determine how cold-hardy, heat-hardy, etc. CP can be. With that in mind, I thought I'd post the occasional horror story and/or warning by example from my own experience...

That tears it! I wasn't going to divide it this year....Was just going to leave well enough alone. Already has some great growth for the year - best it's ever looked this early in the season.
But then Jeremiah HAD to go and offer up his beauty....and I'm not going down without a fight...
Up for Auction is my Favorite S. Mooreii cross I grow. This plant is one I'm hopping to denote as a cultivar in the next few years.
This is the first time I have traded, given, or sold one of these so for a while you will be the only other grower in the world with one.
You will receive a...
