I can't stand to throw away anything that still seems alive, so when I pruned my D. binata dichotoma a few months back I threw the cut leaves into an undrained container of peat and live sphagnum and put it in a freezer bag to cook under my lights.
Now they plantlets are here and much too big...
Peter describes dew leaf cutting in SG on pg 166:
"Snip off the leaves at their petioles." what exactly is the petiole?
"Long leaves, such as ...foked sundews, can be cut into segments about 2 inches long." Does leaves refer to the part that has tentacles, the long "stem", or both?
I took a couple of photos this morning with a used camera I picked up on Ebay. It does a pretty good job. This plant was not labled, a few forum members ID'd it as D. nidiformis. I'm still not sure, it just doesnt seem like the petioles are long enough to be D. nidiformis.

I was searching around PFT and I saw this thread called Drosera X dionaea http://www.petflytrap.com/cgi-bin....dionaea (the thread is about 2 years old, so don't bump it :P)and it interested me. According to Tamlin, it said that a crossbred of D.Regia and Dionaea has been done successfully, the...
hey everyone, I recently picked up one of those little pot of horrors terrariums 8 bucks not abd huh? anyway the VFT seems to have a strange mutant leaves they are on all the leaves, the petioles have a saw-like formation, what do you guys think about it? here is a pic:
Having a bit of an argument over a guy that thinks im crazy telling him he needs a fan in his terrarium. I told him a fan would make healthier, sturdier plants, clears up the stagnant air, and it helps combat rot. Why wouldn't anyone want that? i mean its one thing for a drosera to make dew in a...
OK so i forgot.
When do vft's put out upright petioles? is it before or after blooming?
Just recieved a Red burgundy with all uprights, and all my other vft's arent doing any.
Thanks /Quensel
I've been building on my VFT collection for about 2 years now and hear is my growlist:
VFT's
Big Mouth-Huge traps and very short petioles that hug the ground all season. Also produces deep colouration in the trap interiors
Blood Red Traps-typical growth habit with red traps.
Dente-Short...
My VFT recently started growing very long and thin petioles. The petioles develop very quickly and have large traps on them. Is this a cause of poor lighting? I think I may have a bad bulb (the color is 'off' on one of the bulbs). I'll try to post a pic as soon as I can.
I got the cart before the horse, so to speak, with regard to providing appropriate media for my D scorpiodes. I tried topdressing them with some sand and some of the grains are now sticking to the hungry petioles. What effect will that have on them?
Dingley's Giant-The plant didn't get affected by the Sou Cali dormancy, but it has revert to a rosette instead of the long semi erect petioles. Pretty red traps for winter sun
Yes this is the same one as this one last summer:
This plant looks so yummy right now I had to share this photo. I love all the Petiolaris species, but have a real soft spot for this plant. For those interested in taxonomy, this species can be distinguished by the very fine dendritic hairs on the petiole, and for the insertion of the lamina...
I seem to be developing a problem with my pygmy gemmae. I have so far lost one D. Stellifolia and two D. Dicrhosepla to some kind of fungus. I am aware that gemmae need higher humidity in order to 'gemmanate' but now they have developed a few petioles each is it time to reduce the humidity? Why...
Here is another member of the Petiolaris Complex: Drosera lanata from the Northern Territories of Australia. The fuzzy quality of the petioles helps the plant survive in the extremely hot climate by catching morning mist. The moisture beads up on the hairs, and eventually drips toward the plants...
Here is Drosera anglica as it first appeared in the distant past, in the dawn of its creation when the first fertile seeds of an otherwise sterile hybrid fell from a seed pod and grew.
I am often asked what is the most rare plant in my collection, and this would be it. The plant was produced...
Hello,
The D. scorpioides I recieved from Steve have germinated and now have small petioles growing and a root system starting. Now, I have them in a highland setup, could they live in true lowland setup? Thanks,
Kevin
