My N. Sanguinea is making this blackish nectar on it's peristome. It's thick, not all liquidy like the clear nectar. I touched it and it stuck to my finger, and I pulled my finger back and the nectar stretched some. The stretched part was thinner and it was more of a brown color than black, so...
Alright, I was searching on the forums for N. Madagascariensis when I realized that this is really a misunderstood and underappreciated plant. Reports of difficulty in cultivating this plant are really the products of misinformation, and I thought I'd share some of my growing experiences.
I...
I have some Sarrencia Leu... way to long to spell...
Anyways got them a few weeks ago, my first plant ever.
Been doing everything right apparently, it only had two pitchers, now it has two pitchers still but one that just opened like a couple of hours ago, and another one that is growing and...
Hmm, maybe I'm making too many topics on my Cephalotus, lol, I've made 2. Here's the third! Huzzah. More pictures. I'm addicted to taking photos now thanks to my camera. I fiddled with the settings, changed the texture of the photos to fine and set it to macro so I could get some half-decent...
A few more photos to share from my trip to Phil Faulisi’s place a couple weeks ago – A few of you had asked for some photos of his species, and here you go – again PLEASE respect Phil and do not PM him for any divisions of the plants you see here. Such requests will simply be ignored.
You now...
I recently had the chance to visit Phil Faulisi’s place – and what a pure joy and honor it was. I can only hope that these photos of Phil’s hybrids can sufficiently capture their entrancing beauty. I was awestruck. I was mesmerized. I was hypnotized. I was on a Sarracenia high… !! :-))
As a...
I have some problems with my Nepenthes.
I have both an Alata and a Ventrata, both suffering from the same problems, I suspect.
The conditions:
They are both potted in the same hanging basket, in the same media, which is fresh pure NZ sphagnum moss. The alata is planted straight into the...
I was in a discussion today with co-workers about hummingbirds and their thirst for nectar. (it’s a slow day, I know…) And I mentioned the nectar on certain CP’s; and that got me to thinking:
Have any hummingbirds ever been caught by any species of CP??
Seems like your average tiny...
This morning I just noticed a couple small black ants on my Nepenthes. They seemed attracted to the tiny beads of nectar that formed on the underside of the leaves. I just checked the plant a few minutes ago and now the plant has a large number of the ants on it, all sucking on the nectar beads...
Just had to take a few photos of this ventricosa today. It's making so much nectar that it's just drooling. Ventricosa, where are your manners?!? gawd... must be all the gnats flying around.
Today I feel I have gained +1 Nepenthes experience point, as I tasted Nepenthes nectar for the...
I was watering my CP's out on the balcony tonight, and in the process noticed my Ventricosa was enticing a guest over for dinner, er, to have for dinner. This was awesome to watch, as I've never actually seen my nepenthes 'catch' anything. I just will happen to notice something in its belly...
Came across this, thought i would share for those would be interested (and can read it)

I dont know if the university connection is allowing me to see the full article or if it is always like that, so just in case here is the thing below.
Want to trade it away because it's a small clone. It grows fast, produces copious nectar and has good color, is very compact, but it refuses to expand it's diameter. I'll post pics later. It's just the clone I guess since I'm not doing anything wrong. It's got a cute little toothed peristome...
Hi guys,
I was just noticing this on my talang.
the old leaves seem to have some dots on it.
the topmost new 3 leaves don't have this (formed since I got the plant)
I initially thought it was nectar glands...but i was also hearing that it can be spider mites or fungus.
any diagnosis will be...
I bought a humming bird feeder a few weeks ago, and the feeder has been sitting out with no birds to drink it. The hummingbirds have just arrived and the liquid smells really rancid. How do you suggest I clean it? Soap and water or bleach solution? How often should I change the nectar?
Thats right, this is the first time a plant remain can be 100% positevly confirmed to originate from the family.

A close-up
Haha,
I'm sure people have tasted this stuff... I just did a few minutes ago. My biggest N. ventricosa 'red' pitcher (like 1.5 inches lol) had almost dripping with nectar around the peristome and there have been no insects around so well...
That stuff is sweet!
Just thought I'd share :P...
