I've been experimenting with growing Nepenthes hydroponically since March 2015, so for about a year and a half now. I'd like to share my results in this thread, and then give some details about my method. Thanks to TF member knuckles for sharing with me his experiences growing Nepenthes...
I had noticed my D. Intermedia had quite a few curled and twisted leaves and flowerstalks for some time now. One of the stalks ended up dying, the second stalk got... Weird. It divided in half, and it looked like a D. Binata leaf. That's when I took a very close look and saw tiny green bugs on...
Today I potted up a baby VFT "Akai Ryu".
I bought the parent plant from FlyTrapShop.com. It arrived on May 3rd. It started to send up a flower scape soon after it arrived. I cut the scape and tossed it in some live sphagnum on May 28th. On July 23rd, I saw several growth buds appear. Today it...
1. I have about a dozen or so cuttings of my Nepenthes "graciliflora" (the "smooth alata") available for trade. This is a very easy and vigorous species that can grow as a lowlander and highlander, although it seems to be pretty scarce in the trade right now. I have unrooted 2- and 4-node...
Hi there,
Here is a 4" pot of Utricularia calycifida up for grabs. I may pull a small plug but otherwise there is enough for a couple of good starts. The leaves have stayed small for some reason. Might could divide up a bit if desired. Small priority box, $7.00 postage to you. Do the...
I got my first nepenthes, a reinwardtiana (highland red) around July 4th:
I filled the pitchers with a few drops of distilled water. The brown spots and the small yellow leaf concerned me so I sent an email to the seller, but never got a reply. I also found a single scale on a fallen leaf...
While being able to take a special vacation in the past week, I finally find
a seed pod that I have been hunting for a good number of years.
(Im aware that you can find them for sale online occasionally, but I was just shocked to finally see it in person.)
I read about them many years back...
Here is a photo of my P. chilensis. You can see some seedlings, that are likely from a seed pod which I forgot to harvest. One of the amazing traits of this plant is that it is completely autogamous!
The flowers of P. chilensis are very short, the stalk can be sessile like mine, or a few cm...
I met someone who has a variegated ivy plant that from time to time puts out vines with pure white leaves. Does anybody know about this? I'm curious if there is a clone or strain of ivy that is pure white?
one of my young Nepenthes miranda hybrid got the yellow spots on the leaves recently. Other plants next to it is growing normal without yellow spots. I wonder what wrong with this little guy. I grow it outside under double-layer 40% shade cloth in Houston. The medium is LFS + perlite with some...
I'm sorry for the incredible bad images, my hobby isn't really photography. I just wanted to post pictures of my neps, instead of always asking everyone to show of theirs, thought i could grab my chance as I was watering. Also, I guess I'll use this thread to update on my plants as well as the...
U. alpina x endressii up for trade. Seeking other Orchioides utrics. What am I looking for? To paraphrase Alice in Chains, what's my plant of choice? Well what have you got? Good sized starter plant, leaves about 5-6 inches in length. Here is another plant, in bloom. In the last pic...
This was a very simple one to sort out.
The leaves on the Daphne were having chunks cut out of them. I was working just outside the Darlingtonia house and these pieces of cut leaves, accompanied by a Leaf-cutter Bee, kept landing on my shoulder. She was then flying to the Bee Hotel and...
Neps for Small Spaces (With Photos!)
Think of a one-room studio apartment in the city, a small office in a tall building, a cramped college dorm room, and the Tiny-House Movement!
Now you are ready to think of Neps for Small Spaces. In this thread we are looking for plants that:
1) Have...
I've seen many pictures online of N. ampullaria where the basal are basically all pitchers and the leaves are extremely small. How does one obtain this?
I have a drosera burmannii, the leaves are turning brown from the ends and moving inward, including new leaves that are just forming as you can probably see in the photo. I'm determined to save it - Any idea what the cause is and how I can fix it? Hopefully it's not too late. Thanks in advance...
Hi All, I've been dealing with an issue for a good bit now and I think one of the two of my D.Spatula plants has just about bit the dust:
First of all my setup:
Lights: Agrobrite 4 bulb/2 foot T5 HO (Amazon.com : Agrobrite T5, FLT28, 2 Foot, 8-Tube Fixture with Included Fluorescent Grow Lights...
So i have to say, there is a lot of conflicting information on Ping dormancy. I've been doing a lot of reading and i've seen everything from "They can survive not going through dormancy" to "Let the PLANTS choose when to do dormancy" to "Change your light/temp/etc... to induce it"
For reference...
I tried to germinate CP seeds in test tubes filled with distilled water, using a magnifying glass to easily see when they started to germinate and sprout a root and leaves. I tried tropical and subtropical species, mostly Drosera. I wrote that up a few months ago as CP Water Germination...
