Hi All,
I have a number of Chinese Mantid ooths in the greenhouse. I am auctioning off 6 nymphs, assuming any of the ooths hatch.
So, when bidding, please bare in mind there is a risk that nothing will hatch (which will irritate me vastly, so you won't be alone).
The bidder is assuming this...
Hi! I recently fed some black ants to my droseras and i was surprised that most species (peltata, pygmies, rotundifolia, anglica, burkeana, etc...) suffered harm to their leaves and they died (of course ants escaped). Here is an example of d. anglica (note the dead new leaf):
Now is it the...

This White-Lined Sphinx Moth flew into our kitchen tonight and promptly landed on my head. It was rather calm and didn't mind me taking a few shots of it and even putting it in a dangerous position or two.
Check out the pink spots when it flutters its wings!
In my little brother's...

This is a spanking-new copy of Adrian Slack’s Insect Eaters: How to Grow and Feed Extraordinary Plants, a recent reissue of his long-out-of-print 1986 classic, Insect-Eating Plants and How to Grow Them, a title which still fetches over a hundred clams or more among collectors -- and has...
I found this article while surfing, and I found it fascinating and I think you will too. This is a plant we don't hear much about.
The article itself has pictures of both the plant and its bug. http://www.kew.org/msbp/plantstories/Roridula_dentata.htm

Spring has finally arrived and one tray of Dionaea mucipula cv. B52 is finally showing some early progress in the last few weeks. In February, they were actually submerged for time with the rain, here in Northern California. It certainly bodes well for Summer and Fall when the traps reach their...
i would like to start by saying i found this on www.thegardenhelper.com . this is not my work, it is that of the person who posted this on the site mentionned above. I thought it is EXTREMELY INFORMATIVE and makes defining easy by using plain old english, and not technical terms!

Hello everyone,
I am thinking of getting a new pet (reptile or insect of sorts) but can't decide on one.
Any ideas? Also, due to living circumstances, I would only be able to interact with the pet one week out of two (which a couple days during the off-week to feed and pass by).
thanks...

Hey, if you were an insect or something similarly small what kind of plant would you want to get eaten by. Think about the slow death by sundew, or the shock of getting snapped up by a flytrap. So, how will you go?
I was browsing the web and found this great piece on insect camouflage. Some of it is hard to believe!!

Here are a few macro shots of an unfortunate and hungry housefly who happened upon an equally hungry Heliamphora heterodoxa x minor. The insect landed, fed at the nectar spoon (long enough for me to go and grab a camera, well in excess of five minutes), staggered, and fell backwards into the...
Hi Peeps,
We have a thread on the local gardening forum debating what actually is the insect living in peat moss. It is not a mealy bug and smaller than the whitefly. Some think it is a fungus gnat. It is only about 1/10" in size.
I see lots of them in my seed boxes where I sow my Nepenthes...
I came upon a thread recently that was started by Mr. Aga a while ago. He photographed a fish that he fed to his truncata. There were people that were upset by this. There were also people that supported him. The thread was insanely long, there were 109 replies. So, for those growers that joined...
