Well I have had U. gibba for like 2 years. I have it in all my fish tanks, most of my daphnia cultures and they have been spreading everywhere. The only problem is I've never seen a single flower from them at all. Does anyone know how to make it flower? I really want to see it's flowers. Also if...
Native to Africa, Madagascar, and South America, these carnivores are related to Pinguicula and Utricularia, but their traps are like no other. Genlisea grow as an amphibious species, and sometimes terrestrials, in wet, peaty, sand. They are found in tropical regions. Genlisea produce leafy...

A long time ago someone posted a good source for Daphnia.. and I can't seem to find it again. I'm pretty sure Carolina isn't the one I'm thinking of (I can't even find Daphnia on their web page anymore). Anyone have any other sources?
Thanks

I noticed that one of my terrariums that had picked up a colony of Daphnia a while back and they didn't seem to harm the plants any. However this time I cleaned it out and sterilised the tank, they didn't return and I've been overrun with algae.
Anyone know what its all about?
I am looking to start with some Aldrovanda in my aquarium. I was wondering if it is okay with small fish about 3/4" long. Does it just feed on small aquatic invertebrates like Daphnia?
Thanks much!
I have Inflata and some aureaus to get rid of. I am glad to report the the daphnia experiment has gone very well. Too well. I will trade of give these away. If trade no money need exchange hands. If free then I will need a little extra for a small water tight container for shipping. PM me. My...
Hi,
Last August my city changed from underground water to surface water and didn't tell us or I missed the notice so one Sunday when I was doing water changes my fish just started dying. The surface water had 4 times the chlorine as the old underground water and I didn't know so I was using...
I've recently started a triop tank, brine shrimp tank, but I want to acquire a daphnia culture to start producing for my frys. But the petstore I used to get them at lost their lease and closed out. I didn't know this, and I already washed out my daphnia culture cuase of re arrangements. I was...
Does anybody have some spare aquatic utrics? I will be getting daphnia (thanks to the generosity of Copper, again) and feel that I can provide a suitable enviroment for them. So, I'm in the market for aquatic Utrics!
Wanted: (in case you haven't figured this out yet) aquatic utrics (ex. U...
I have purchased a daphnia colony and put half into my aquatics tank. I did this last Saturday. In the tank I have inflata, purpurea, aldrovanda, gibba and aureaus. The plants were growing fairly well anyway, but there is already some amazing differences since the daphnia addition. The one that...
You may have known that I have started to build a vivarium. In the vivarium I have a waterfall, that leads to a stream, then eventually to the pond. Using the false bottom method, the pond will always be circulating. In the pond, I have bought some hornworts and java moss, to give it a tropical...
I was going through some of my lab notes from college and found something that might be germane to Utricularia cultivation. I used to work with Daphnia pulex on phytogenetics and sexual reproduction.
D. pulex is a fascinating little creature that reproduces primarily through parthenogenesis...
Hi All,
Yesteday, a friend sent me a young wild caught pair of a beautiful killifish species -- Aphyosemion cognatum. The male is a nice yellowish color covered with red dots and stripes and his showy finnage is edged in blue. The female is quite small and under-nourished from her trip out of...
Just curious- what do you feed your CP's? And do you feed them at all? I have heard so many conflicting opinions and vague suggestions lately.. I'm just wondering what works best for you guys.
Also, do any of you feed your aquatic CP's?
I've been thinking of ordering daphnia or something for...
i have my gibba growing in a small aquarium 50/50 peat sand with sand on top. the plants were pushed into the soil. and have about 1.5 inchs of water above the soil. problem is. alge. i bought daphnia just as the problem started and was putting them in there. needless to say i only saw the alge...
I was breeding fruitflies for my CPs but my cultures developed mold when the humidity rose with the onset of late spring and early summer in Minnesota.
But while I was feeding my fish their usual fare of frozen insects and that got my cogs cranking:
Could I put a few defrosted bloodworms...
My yeast/sugar/water CO2 reactor overflowed into my aquarium with my aquatic CPs (Aldrovanda vesiculosa and Utricularia radiata). I was in the shower when it happened, so I wasn't able to stop it. The water is now cloudy and there is a yeasty cloud at the bottom of my aquarium. :/ Will this...
