Daphnia - algae remedy?

I noticed that one of my terrariums that had picked up a colony of Daphnia a while back and they didn't seem to harm the plants any. However this time I cleaned it out and sterilised the tank, they didn't return and I've been overrun with algae.

Anyone know what its all about?

Yep, Daphnia eat algae, so when you got rid of them, there was nothing to control the algae.....

Thanks tin whistle playing cp grower. Does anyone think that Daphnia waste products will constitute nutrient or otherwise poison cps if living in the terrarium. I'm considering reintroducing them!
