up until recently I thought pings were like heli's and there was only 1 kind/climate. To my surprise I discovered there are temperate pings. Are there any that would be able to grow outdoors in central va(zone7 i think)? I have done a couple internet searches but I am looking in the wrong places...
I have a few intermediates in my possession and while I do not anticipate them hanging around long there is always a chance 1 of them might not find a home in the short run...
From what I have gathered they generally like:
-lots of light
-lower humidity
-damp soil
-mild temps
I have setup...
I always wanted some tubers and thought one day I would get around to it but as luck would have it I got some through a giveaway. I am in the process of setting up a winter terrarium for all my african sundews.....can I grow these things in there with them?
how picky are they about...
So, someone on OCPS forums admitted to taking plants from my cities local protected bog.
Needless to say, I wanted to unleash the kracken and destroy this kid. But he is young, and I don't want to scare him away...
Here is part of my response:
I am from Ottawa, and am quite disappointed that...
Hey there, I'm a new Drosera Enthusiast, and I have a small completely enclosed terrarium and i'm trying to take care of a D. Nitidula ssp. Omissa X Occidentalis but it doesnt seem to be doing well. Although it has bloomed new leaves it has not formed dew yet. It also looks a little dry. I...
While looking up information for the cultivation I have found that there are very few guides to growing N. villosa, so I thought I would write up a basic guide to its cultivation from the information I have found and my limited experience (two months) with the plant.
Nepenthes villosa or the...

In June of 2011 I bought my first Cephalotus follicularis; the so-called "vigorous" clone from D. Hastings. I knew little about the care and cultivation of this mysterious species, but as is my way, I sought every snippet of information available to help me forge a plan for its care. This is the...
Up for auction is a strong, well-established division of U. alpina x U. endresii**. I had no plans to offer this plant in the auction but noticed a significant chunk with large tubers growing on the side of one of my netpots. This is a very robust growing plant that is great for those new to...
I just got a heliamphora unincata and I cant seem to find any pics of it in cultivation. If any of you guys grow it please post pics. I find H. unincata to be pretty fast growing from what I have seen and really underrated plant. It has some really nice intermediate traps.. here is mine
I wanted to share photos of my pink- and yellow-flowered S. rubra wherryi clones, along with a red-flowered clone from the same location (Washington County, Alabama) for comparison. This is the first time I've had all three flowering together. Also including a photo of the variant plants...

Believe it or not, I googled cultivation for them and about all I can find is a reference to LFS and high water table. Do they need a cold period or should they be in warm temps?. Are they a good terrarium plant or are they best on a grow rack? Do they need a big day/night temp differential?
Hi,
as I have looked through the Pinguicula forum I found, that there are hardly any pictures to find that show cold hardy Pinguicula and their gemmae buds in spring.
Cold hardy Pinguicula can propagate from their winter buds as they produce small gemmae during autumn/winter, that can grow to...
Over the months (because i havent been in the hobby for THAT long), I was asked by different individuals about my petiolaris drosera cultivation practices. Concerning petiolaris, the most mysterious and least understood area in their cultivation is their dormancy. I remember the first time...
So- in the wild, tuberous drosera go dormant during the hot, dry Summers and then grow during the mild, wet Winters.
In cultivation, a plant's climate is normally mimicked for them to grow propperly, but how neccessary is HEAT in tuberous drosera dormancy? Where I live, the average daily...
Babysitting the following bog plants, any guidance is most appreciated....

(cultivation, dormancy, etc)
Calopogon tuberosus
Lycopodium appressum - Bog club-moss
Pogonia ophioglossoides
Sparganium americanum - Burr Reed

Well, I'm really getting into neps. I don't want to jump in and spends tons of cash before I know my neps are thriving. Neps 1-3 I've had for around a month and they have obviously settled in, as they are vinining quickly and/or creating new leaves and pitchers. Neps 4-6 I've had for...
