So I think it may be possible to grow sarrs and vfts completely outdoors here after all, the only problem is the wind. The hot dry wind tends to dessicate and break plants on bad days. I'm just looking for ideas on how to create a wind block. My idea after reading an article for bonsai it to...
Hi guys,
Found a very nice new truncata pitcher hidden away in the tank.
Firstly, this is the common one I see...peristome folded back... on most of the seedlings.
However, the second seedlings pitchers always hang and they show a very nice peristome. Infact, if I may say so...looks like a...

I haven't seen this answered here or in FAQs I've found. So, silly question, when talking about mixing soils, all ratios are given by volume, right? Not by weight? Everything else from houseplants to bonsai, ratios are by dry volume, so I just wanted to make sure.
Just starting out with CPs here. I've done indoor bonsai for maybe ten years, the odd fly trap here and there. Currently I've a 10g terrarium (72W T5 HO) and ExoTerra Nano (8"x8"x12", 26W PC). Nothing really spectacular, VFTs, S. purpurea, S. psittacina, common Drosera, Pinguicula, and...

Hi Everyone,
I've been wanting to get into bonsai for a while, and I've done some research. Many websites offer a lot of information about care, shaping, pruning etc.
But I've found that they tend to be vague about choosing a specimen, this is what is holding me back. I have no idea which...

Utricularia reniformis - larger form - seedgrown plant.
In December of 2008, I received a number of very small U. reniformis seedlings from a friend. As usual, I repotted the plants into assorted media. Up for auction is the plant I placed into 100% live LFS. While the plant has grown...
I had to repot and unpot and deflask and reflask some of my plants and since I had them all misplaced, I took some pictures. Hope you like them:-)

Though I have been doing bonsai for about 13 or 14 yrs, this is my first attempt at chrysanthemum bonsai. Mums were used in penjing by the Chinese before the art was refined as bonsai by the Japanese. Mid October is the time of Kiku Matsuri, the mum festival, in Japan.

Cephalotus, inducing stress for faster growth....
I'm curious if anybody has an opinion about possibly speeding growth of Cephalotus with induced stress (please keep reading). Originally, I purchased three plants. I had grown this plant with great success for about fifteen years. Therefore...
