Singaporeans - Pygmy Sundews

Started this thread so that we can compare our experiences and growing methods. Eventually I hope we can write an article about pygmies' cultivation in Singapore and have it pinned down.

What say you, guys?

(1) d.ericksoniae x pulchella
(2) d.occidentalis spp. australis
(3) d.nitidula alantostigma x pulchella

(1) germinated, (2) not yet and (3) all the gemmae turned brown and had fungus growing.

They are all in 4-inch pots with peat/river sand mix (river sand is much more coarse than silica sand, I ran out of silica sand). 3 inches away from florescent lights (18W, Philips,coolwhite).</span>

This is what I have:

D. callistos
D. occidentalis ssp. australis
D. nitidula x unknown species
D. nitidula x D. pygmaea
D. paleacea ssp. paleacea

Gemmae of D. occidentalis ssp. australis not doing so well. Fungus attack.

Just some updates. I grow all of them under florescent lights.

d.puchella (from seed)
Doing alright at first, slow growth. Then I placed it further from the lights and ignored them. Maybe because it's cooler, they are suddenly growing very well! Lots of dew!

d.ericksoniae x pulchella (from gemmae)
Didn't do well, got burnt.

I wanted to harden them but it seemed that half an hour of morning sun was too much. Anyway, they're back on track again. Rather small but dewy.

d.occidentalis spp. australis (from gemmae)
They have become furry!!! I'm shifting them to be with my puchella. Suspecting that the heat from the lights is too much and they have gone dormant!

How did you all get gemmae? I don't have any yet. My friend says that he could send some, I think it was about a week ago, but its too cold over at his place now.

My set-up

Light = bright indirect sunlight, 2 weeks after germination gradually introduce to directly sun (increase to exposure time of 6 hours by moving location) and finally removing the transparent cover after another month.
Temperature = 24~28C in office, 26 ~32 at home

1st  batch

Drosera occidentalis ssp australis = only one growing well, flowering.

Drosera paleacea ? = growing well
.

2nd batch
Drosera ericksoniae = Gone, blacken when received, no water in baggy.

3rd batch
Drosera echinoblastus = ??
Drosera nitidula ssp nitidula = ??

4th batch
Drosera callistos "Brookston form” = growing well
Drosera ericksoniae x pulchella = growing well
Drosera pygmaea esd Lowrie = ??

??= Not growing well
The gemmae were all sown late, due to mail transit time and some were not flash due to additional storage at source. Given the same conditions, the fleshier gemmae performed much better

Washed lawn sand / peat 1:1, top with a 1cm layer of lawn sand.

JK, is that lawn sand from FEF? if it is it sure looks different from mine from FEF. It looks like it has much more crystals and looks more coarse

Yes, it was lawn sand from FEF. Some of the sand gain are coarse, but there are magnified 3~8 times in the photo.

oh i see... ill take a pic of my sand and magnify to see if theres any difference. is it working well for you? I want to start using it

I grow them with sun shining in at an angle, in this tank. 2:1 sandeat ratio.
