Sarracenia Photos 2007!!

We're enjoying this thread. Pyro, love the near white flowers on catesb x oreo. Any details on it? Our plant of this same hybrid blooms bright chartruese.

Hey Trent,

Same plant if I am correct about the source (our mutual friend). These pics were taken the day the bloom first opened up, the petals have coloured up a it more since then and are the same bright chartruese you describe. With that slight flush of pink near the base.

Wide shot.... I'm excited about the pitchers that will come from that plant with the tall flower on the left. : drool : i bet it's gonna be BIG :D I wonder if the pitchers too will hit the G/H roof. :-O

Some Sarracenia Flowers

I just wanted to share a few photos of some of my Sarracenia flowers.

First is S. luecophylla 'Titan'. It sent up 10 blooms this year! I am very excited about that. It's a record for my small collection. And what was really interesting is that they are quite pungent this year -- potently fragrant. They were very mild last year -- could barely smell them.

The second is the last of the S. flava blooms. They went early and quickly this year for some reason.

And finally an S. alata about to get another mouthful. This pitcher is already in decline due to over eating I think. It's just about packed to the rim.

Thank you. I try to take as good as care as I can but mostly I think it's from their enormous appetite. It's amazing how much insect matter is caught in their pitchers. I always cut open a few old ones in February when I clean them up for the new growing season. And they are just packed with the exoskeletal remains of all that has been devoured the last season. All that nutritional energy has to go somewhere I guess.

I just got so excited because last year this plant only put up 2 or 3 blooms if I remember correctly. I've never had a single plant put up this many blooms.:banana2:

Gluttonous pigs! Don't they know that gluttony is supposedly a sin? lol. Beautiful flowers. Did you try and cross any?

xvart.

I should try to cross them but....I'm not that sophisticated.

When it comes to the devouring of annoying insects like wasps and flies, gluttony is no vice!:-D

CPhog. sorry to say. but that is not pure S. flava. maby with the orange color it could be S. x moorei?? S. flava (all forms) are supposed to have pure yellow flowers. great plants nonetheless! how does the 'Titan' live up to its name? ive heard some rather depressing stories about it :(

Hey, let's keep this thread for photos!!
A picture of my prize cap sundew. I have to weed out that S. rosea luteola that is growing in the pot. Or is it the other way around??

Wow! Your seedlings are doing well too Jowl.

I have to weed out that S. rosea luteola that is growing in the pot.

Are you sure it's not purpurea ssp. purpurea forma heterophylla? Luteola is very rare and only a couple of people have it.

Jowl-GREAT plants and photographs.
Alexis, yes, that is S. rosea luteola. I am trying to baby it so I can get seed. I don't know WHY this is as rare as it is, it has been around for a while and it is supposed to come true from seed. Whoever has it should be propagating them!! Mine had a seedpod when I got it last fall but it was empty. This year it split into two growing points but did not bloom.

Great pics, CP30!! Id for the three is a guess, but here goes: first one looks like maybe a Flava Coppertop x Flava Rubricorpora? Second is some kinda Catesbaei? And the third is maybe a Moorei x Alata or Minor? Never know for sure. Great pics though!
