San Diego Herp Show

I took a stroll down to the show yesterday and hung out for about an hour or so taking pics. Apparently it was a weekend show, so who knows what fabulous animals already sold Saturday . Pics are for the ever-delightful Ms Liz. Without further ado..

The walk down - foggy but clear over Pt Loma

And of course, some sort of CP vendor. I have no idea who these guys are/were. I asked how much the cobras were and apparently the bigger were 30$. Seems legit-ish (didn't buy anything)

And then inside the show!

and yes, I feel bad for all of them because not a single animal looked like it had a big enough container

Oh, Andy's Orchids came through! Sorry some of these are soooo blurry - the lighting was about as bright as the inside of an upturned leather boot on a cloudy day..

Wow amazing pics of the snakes!!! Poor things, the least they could have done was put in some water for them .

Beautiful animals, I wouldn't mind having a few of them as pets!
Do remember however, these are reptiles, and while I agree a small water bowl in the cages would be nice, most reptiles actually like very small, enclosed places, less so the large, open terrarium habitats, because small spaces are where they would naturally hide, and they feel protected. It's nowhere near as bad as you'd think. Besides, any that are bought will be quickly moved to larger tanks, and those not sold will be put back into larger living spaces back at the breeder's place.

Awesome! Very nice photos. Those are all perfect looking specimens. I've always wanted to raise a green tree python.

I thought that too, but if you notice the tree boas, they're wet so I'm guessing they had at least regular misting.

Yeah I'm guessing because most if not all looked ok. I'm guessing it's pretty traumatic for them to be in clear boxes with tons of people walking past them, but hey if that's your business you gotta do what you gotta do. If you have a good reputation, you can charge a lot, and you won't have nice pets if they're stressed out because they lose their appetite if they're unhappy, right?

If they're used to people, or shows, then it's not that hard on them. Also, it takes a lot to make a reptile lose their appetite. It's natural for them to not eat for a few days afterward, but they'll be fine, unless it's a really finicky species.
By the way, really like the retics. We're hoping to get one for our school.

Ah, now that I've googled that, I do think I remembered seeing day-geckos. I'm not sure if it was specifically the yellow throated ones though. It was hard getting in to see them because despite the fact it was like 15 minutes after opening, the place was already packed. Also somehow people left their baby strollers parked in front of all of them despite the fact they weren't looking at them ...is why most of my gecko shots are crappy.
