1. Only ONE (1) Plant per member may be entered in any particular month. This means one Nep vine, one Sarr Rhizome, one pygmy dew etc.
2. All pictures must be taken in the month of entry into the contest.
3. All entries must be clearly identified.
4. Entries are restricted to cultivated plants.
5. Contestants may post as many times and as many pictures of their entry as they like until contest closing on 11/30/13
6. Sequential pictures showing opening of a pitcher, unfurling of a leaf etc. are fine as long as all pictures are taken within the month of the contest.
7. If, for some reason, a single pitcher/plant/whatnot cannot be isolated and a group shot is necessary, then the particular pitcher/plant/whatnot entered must be clearly identified in your post.
8. Plant must have been grown by owner at least six months prior to photo, or sprouted from seed by the owner.
9. I didn't like this rule. You can keep entering the same thing month after month and if people still like it without getting sick of it, so be it.
10. Times of Contest and Poll openings and closings are to be understood as EST.
11. Judging by forum members and guests in a poll opening on 12/01/13, closing 12/05/13 and using this forum in this thread! Voting will appear at the top of the thread at the close of the contest entries.

** Please remember to clearly identify your entry!!**

Contest will be closed on November 30th 2013 at 5:00PM EST

Good Luck!

D. adelae, A Survivor's Tale..

About a year ago I picked up a free D. adelae in a trade. I stuck it in a big kid pot with nothing but pure live LFS for media. Earlier this year we had a pretty long power outtage, causing in a rise in temps, rise in fungus, and a serious lack of light & airflow. Not much you can do for the fans and lights at that point. Needless to say, this sundew was one of the few to perish. About a month or two after that tornado went through knocking out the power, I started seeing all sorts of sprouts from the root mass that was left below the surface. Here's what that (originally 1 plant) looks like today: http://i1140.photobucket.com/albums/n575/mass2256/IMG_5704_zps5232720e.jpg
I think we'll keep up the intensity and start with the macros of my entry:

Without further adieu, here is my Plant of the Month entry. It's uniqueness is worthy of this entry IMO..

Awesome plant resurrection story. One of the things I love most about plants is how they will actively work with you to survive... Sometimes they will overcome even the strongest stresses. I consider horticulture a partnership between human and plant. We do the best we know how for them, but when we can't they try to make up the difference.

nice macros Mass, always pretty cool when something like that happens, you got my vote so far:-D

Pretty soon and I'll be able to show how easy it is to turn 3 D. schizandra into 30.. without touching them.
Ah the magic of sundews and their roots.

Well done mass, as always !

I too will be entering a Drosera adelae. My argument that this is allowable is that none of these "plantlets" have roots and are just emerging from this single leaf, so they still constitute a single plant. Some quick backstory these plantlets are part of my undergrad research where I am treating different species of sundew leaves with different plant hormones to see if I can increase plantlet proliferation and this is one of the better looking leaves, even though it doesn't have a ton of plantlets on it. So there ya have it, my entry. Drosera adelae

Let the arguments over whether or not this qualifies commence!

Does that fall in line with rule #8? I can't imagine those plantlets are more than 6 months old. Or are we counting the time it took for the leaf to strike now too?

Cool, and very sticky-looking! What hormones have you selected for trials on your leaves?
