Family Cat Of 17+ Years Put Down

I'm terribly sorry to hear that man, it's a bad day for sure but just try to think about all good times you had together for those 17 years.
 
Awwww, so sorry Jim. 17 years? That's a real good run. I had to put down my dog a few years ago, she was almost 15. My first (and LAST) put down. I couldn't do it again. I keep freshwater fish now. I miss my "Baby" a lot....
 
So sorry to hear of your loss... I had to put down my 12 year old dog last year due to liver disease. It was the worst feeling holding her in my arms as the sedative took effect. I just lost it in that room.
 
Thank you all for your support! Tomorrow we get to see this Maine Coon kitten and hopefully we can take him home.

"The Rainbow Bridge"

'There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth. It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of its many colors. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge there is a land of meadows, hills and valleys with lush green grass.

When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place. There is always food and water and warm spring weather. All the animals who have been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. Her bright eyes are intent; her eager body begins to quiver. Suddenly she begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, her legs carrying her faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated.'
 
I too am very sorry for your loss. our pets are taken from us far too quickly. You and your wife should search out the nearest branch of Maine Coon Rescue. They help people place kittens/cats that they need to give up by finding pre-approved homes for them. In the 70's and 80's my husband and I bred and showed maine Coons. When five years ago we wanted to adopt a maine coon the rescue found us three to choose from rangeing from 3 to 9 months old.
 
Lynn and I took a field trip to visit the kitten. He is one scared kitten. When we tried the transfer of cat carriers, he reacted and scratched his now former owner. He may look like a Maine Coon, as did our kitty from the early 80's, but he is no a pedigree. We have phenotype but not genotype. He came with the name of Mario, but 'Thanel wants to call him Sammy.

What a gorgeous cat! Look at the size of those paws. I'm sure he found a nice family to adopt.
 
He was playing with my feet last night, so there is progress. He still won't let me come close to petting him. yeah, he's going to be a good-sized cat, when he's full grown.
