they seem to have a predisposition to grow vertically. latching wherever they can on rocks or moss--they also, like darlingtonia, seem to appreciate moving water rather than stagnant conditions. :)

Love the Pinguicula set-up, Brie. Make space.. I'd hate to see you give up any of your other well-grown plants.

Thanks :) They came from DJ's bog, and since we're both in their native range, hoping they continue to do well..

Nice update Brie! I wouldnt be too worried about the gypsicola, mine are starting to go dormant as well.

Thats good to know.. Maybe its just a mid summer temperature thing? Previously mine only started this during winter when I shortened the light cycle...

Well I now have an open tray from rehoming all of my tuberous dews.. So I was planning on rearranging, making more room and probably repotting some of the bigger pings that are outgrowing their smaller pots.. So dont worry, they aren't going anywhere. :) I'm actually going to start thinning out my collection, and concentrate more on just certain groups of plants, like mexi pings.

glad to see the villosa is doing well for you..

Loving your ping collection. Makes me want to get back into growing them again.

Thanks, :) Yeah its doing good so far.. Its in with my other SA dews... And pings are great indeed.

Wow, always nice to view your updates! Glad the pings are doing well for you. I love your Mexican ping collection, such healthy-looking plants. Do you keep your D. traceyii outside year-round?

Some of the pings. In need of repotting/maintenance here soon. Some are definitely getting too big for the space. lol. In this pic, from top to bottom roughly, are 'John Rizzi', 'Weser', gigantea, cyclosecta, gigantea x hemiepiphytica Site2#6, agnata 'True Blue', agnata 'Red Leaf', gracilis x moctezumae, emarginata x cyclosecta, gypsicola(starting to go dormant), gypsicola x “Köhres”(going dormant and flowering), and hemiepiphytica Site2#6.

This is supposed to be D. roraimae but i'm starting to wonder. There seems to be two distinct looking plants that people label as D. roraimae. One that is flat with long leaves, and one that grows etoliated like this, with short leaves, looking much more like madagascarensis. Thoughts?

Everything's looking great Brie. H.sarracenioides is an unbelievable plant. Strong, fast, tolerant and forgiving. Should be everybody's 1st Heliamphora.

The awesome set of leaf pullings from RSS, and baby typicals from leaf pullings that arrived the day after from DJ.. Thanks guys! Hopefully I can keep these alive. :p And I know it looks like theres alot of water in the tray from the reflection, but its JUST enough water to keep the bottoms of the pots wet.

Pings look awesome ! That H.sarracenioides seems to have kicked into high gear. Too bad it's not more commonly available, it should be everyone's gateway into the genus.

  • #694
Good looking garden Brie. Love that gypsicola. I might have to acquire one of those.

loving the pings Brie, next year i plan to get a few more in my collection and posts like yours helps drive my enthusiasm

You certainly have the touch with P. gypsicola. How long did the D. roraimae take to strike for you? For me it has always taken so long I was about to throw the whole thing out.

I guess, I pretty much have always just ignored it. lol. It does definitely seem VERY light cycle sensitive, and shortening of just a couple hours sends mine heading into dormancy mode. I let it go solid dormant last winter, then brought it out again. Just have to keep it pretty much bone dry for a couple months until you lengthen the light cycle again.

Not sure on the roraimae cutting... I didnt pay very close attention to it other then to look at it every now and then to see if the leaf was still green. But if I had to guess, i'd say a month? I made sure to stick the broken end of it into the peat so it had a water supply, and pushed it down onto the media.. and just left it alone from there..

Yeah it sure has. Every pitcher is dramatically bigger then the last. Have only given it ferts like twice since you sent it to me.. Awesome little plant. :) I'm really happy it put up adult pitchers so fast.

Thanks for the reply. Every time I have tried to reproduce this one vegetatively it has taken at least 3 months to get strikes. It's good to know it can be done more quickly. I think I will change my tactics.
