Yay fish! What are the tetras? Super cute pygmy cory pretending to be a tetra lol!

  • #63
yes. the cory was being super cute....it was tagging along with the school as the photos were being shot.
the fish are indeed tetras, but are a recently undescribed species of Tyttocharax. the designation that they are currently receiving is spp. blue line.

or 2.5 gallons of pain. hahaha. such a hassle trying to clean it. im getting better at not breaking the twigs, but still....
also the last tenants (the tyttocharax) left a nice present in the tank since their bioload was crazy wonkers, and i have a bacterial bloom at hand....no bueno. T.T

Looking good Jon, Phamtastic job.. I can't wait to move so I can set up a few aquariums again. I'd love to do a heavily planted Indian tank with dwarf puffers, dwarf gouramis and, some loaches. What kind of branches are you using in there ? Do you have trouble with them rotting away ?

Johnny, you plan on giving a dwarf puffer tank mates? I wish you the best of luck.

Very nice work! It's hard scaping such a small space. I kinda gave up on keeping my 3 gallon manageable.

I second what wire says. i've got tank mates with my pea puffers. they get nippy if they get too hungry, I have to make sure to give them their bloodworms every morning. they have taken little bites from the tails and fins of the other fish. small snails and shrimp are toast, amano shrimp are fine though.

Cthulhu: the branches are manzanita. initially when setting up, i did have some type of growth, fungal/bacterial growth occurring-but the shrimps ate that, and it never showed up again. some of the branches have become easier to break since they are submersed and became soft over time.

@wire: you're telling me! it's so hard to change the water, or fish out left over food, or netting out unrulies from a tank this size and this detailed. stuff ends up breaking. :(

I've put Indian dwarf puffers into community tanks several times in the past. They only time they ever show any aggression towards other tank mates is when they're defending eggs, and even they only defend the immediate area of the nest. They're far less aggressive than other freshwater puffers.
